The proposals for symbols of the Plzen Region were *not* approved by the parliamentary heraldic and vexillological subcommittee.
Plzen Region: the symbols were rejected by the parliamentary subcommittee and new competition is prepared.

Yesterday, four flags of the Czech regions (Central Bohemian, South Bohemian, Zlin, and Hradec Kralove) were officially granted by Vaclav Klaus, the chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliament, to th regional hejtmans.
The date of the ceremony of granting the flag to the region's hejtman is irrelevant from the vexillological (and legal) point of view.

lzen (the Square) is situated 1010 ft above sea level in the Plzen basin (Plzenska kotlina) which is bounded to the north by the Krkavec downs (Krkavecka pahorkatina), to the south-east by the Radyne highlands (Radynska vrchovina) and to the east by the Radec belt (Radecske pasmo).
The Plzen basin is the easternmost and, at the same time, the lowest part of the West Bohemian basin.
There is also a significant amount of permocarboniferous which is formed by sandstone and schist as, for example, near Radcice (the hunter s lodge), extending to the north and north-west of the Plzen region in the direction of Ledce, Tremosna, Horni Briza and Kaznejov.

PRAGUE, Oct 1 (CTK) - Nine Czech regions, which were hit by the worst floods in the country's modern history, have calculated the damage incurred in the August flooding at Kc79.6bn, which is within the interval of Kc60-90bn estimated by the government in mid-Aug.
The South Bohemian region, with Kc29.3bn damage, was hit the most, followed by Prague with Kc24bn.
The Plzen region in West Bohemia reported a Kc4.1bn loss and the South Moravian region, Liberec region in North Bohemia, Karlovy Vary region in West Bohemia and Vysocina region reported all damage in the order of millions of crowns.
