Hi, poEdit is accumulating comments which where tagged as automated comments (marked with "#.") by removing the "." while using the the synchronising with POT File.
poEdit seems not to be able to identify those comments as already there (which it does with normal comments).
Hi, msgfmt.exe supplied with poEdit generates incompatible hashtables if the original strinsg contain characters with the MSB Bit Set (iE iso8859-1 characters or UTF8 coded characters.) the msgfmt.exe supplied with the win32 gettext packages does not have this problem...

Has anyone ever been requested to work with a gettext file (.pot)? (Localization)
Have just downloaded and installed poEdit (as well as GTranslator, another Linux tool) and it does seem to be something of a translation tool - not just a plain editor.
KBabel, poEdit and GTranslator seem to facilitate this but presumably it is possible to do it just using a text editor such as Notepad.
The file with the translation is supposed to be saved with a.po extension, and some information is generally required at the beginning of the file.

poEdit was moved to new hosting, please update your bookmarks: it's now http://www.poedit.org.
The easiest way to install Windows version of poEdit is to use the installer (poedit-1.3.4-setup.exe).
poEdit uses MSLU to enable Unicode on Win9x, but I am unable to distribute the necessary DLL thanks to Microsoft's draconian licensing terms, so you will have to download and install it yourself.

With only a tag of _() surrounding any text to be translated a catalog may be created and later the translation catalog may be substituted at runtime.
Using the `poEdit`_ tool translators may easily build different language catalogs with very little training.

This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
En dat is ook niet te installeren met apt-get dus heb ik die manueel proberen er op te zwieren, staat een mooie handleiding bij die echt niet zo moeilijk lijkt.

For those that do not know what PoEdit is: Simply, it is a tool that can be used for translating themes, and other code such as WordPress itself from one language to another.
Prepare theme files for cataloguing by PoEdit - This is a matter of marking each string for translation with keywords.
This catalogue is a “MO” file made by PoEdit, that is a binary compiled version of the original “PO” file once the translations have been added.

Issues using poEdit | drupal.org   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
poEdit for windows, version 1.3.1 (latest at the moment) seems to require some additional steps to recognize plural forms (if you try to edit a term which has plurals, even if you translate it, it doesn't appear in poedit when you move to an other term, as usual, and even if you save, it doesn't).
So, if you find a plural term, close poedit, open the file you were translating with a normal text editor (no, not Word...), and search for "plural" in it, you find something similar to this:
Even better, you can do this BEFORE start translating the rest of the file with poedit, translating every occurrance of plural in the same way, in every file, and THEN start using poedit: this way, you will find those strings already translated in poedit, and they don't bother you.

The problem is it needs a parser and poedit only comes with a C/C++ and a delphi parser.
And according to the people from poedit's mailinglist, they're no good for PHP source.

poEdit is a fairly new editing device brought to you by the Open Source Software Movement.
Entries are aranged in a list, so that you can easily navigate large catalogs and immediately get an idea about how big part of the catalog is already translated, what needs translating and which parts are only translated in a "fuzzy" way.
poEdit is released under the MIT license (older releases use equivalent license with slightly different wording).

Plone community raises money for poEdit — plone.org
poEdit is an important tool for the Plone translators — it allows them to edit the translations of Plone (stored in so-called po files) in a reliable and convenient manner.
The Mac OS X users out there were left without a proper tool to maintain translations, and there are no other applications for the OS X platform that do this.
The author of poEdit, Vaclav Slavik, had been trying to raise money for a while through donations to buy a Mac Mini so he could maintain the OS X port of poEdit.

I wanted to compile poedit from source and create an RPM package on the way.
I have compiled this version of poedit (in the binary RPM of course) using the gtk2 packages:
You will also need wxGTK >= 2.4.1, but I strongly suggest the newer 2.5.3.1 version, as poedit seemed to be having problems with large fonts when compiled with the older 2.4.1 version.

I'm running into problems with poEdit versions greater than 1.3.1 (running on a Windows 2K SP3 system) trying to read in PO (or POT) files marked to use a utf-8 encoding, which were being generated by an automatic tool I want to use.
I simplified things to a pure metadata entry which is just in ASCII and it still has the problem.
Another person had a reference to upgrading their Win2K system to SP4 and the problem going away - I happen to be on SP3 but can't do a full system upgrade at the moment to test that theory.

Hi, I would be interested in helping to get a version of poEdit to run on Mac OS X. I've compiled it, and it runs - but I am not able to click any of the buttons on the startup screen, and thus I can't get to the application itself.
My thoughts were that we could create a branch in CVS and uncomment certain bits to try to locate where the problem is, but I would need assistance from someone that knows the poEdit source to do this.

There are two ways to translate the file - manually or using poEdit, a program to help with translations.

poEdit keeps track of which lines have not yet been translated, and which are "fuzzy" translations (automated translations that may be wrong and should be checked).
