  Polish Dance Groups in Southern California: Podhale
The term Podhale refers to the narrow strip of land (meadows) around the rocky peaks in the Tatras and the peaks themselves; it is shortened from the term Skalne Podhale [Rocky Foothills].
Podhale also appeared at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and at various consular events sponsored by the General Consulate of the Republic of Poland in L.A. Podhale dancing the krakowiak, 1999.

Podhale, which means under the mountain meadows, is Poland's southernmost region.
From the top of the hill, the Podhale landscape fans out to the north with its gentle rises and falls, whilst behind, the Tatra mountains dominate the horizon, Poland's natural border to the south.

Marie Curie, the first woman Nobel Prize winner and the only person to be awarded this prize twice, considerably contributed to the construction of the sanatorium, and she visited it in the second decade of the twentieth century.

The thermal waters are associated with carbonates of highly fractured Nummulite Eocene and with Mesozoic rocks (carbonates of Middle Triassic, sandstones of Lower Jurassic).Two geothermal doublets were completed for thermal water exploitation in the northern part of Podhale basin where thermal waters of 80-900 C occur at the depth ~2000-3000m.
The Podhale thermal waters reservoir is associated with Mesozoic and "Nummulite Eocene" rocks, which are covered by almost impermeable, up to 3000 m thick complex of Paleogene flysch.
The geological structure of Mesozoic substratum of Podhale region is composed of a pile of several small tectonic slices imbricated from south to the north.
