Podlachia, Podlesia, or Podlasie is a historical region in eastern part of Poland and western Belarus.
Between the 10th and the 13th centuries, Podlachia was occupied by Ruthenian tribes speaking a form of proto-Ukrainian, probably from Volhynia.
Southern Podlachia belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania until the Third Partition of Poland in 1795.

Podlachia Voivodship or Podlasie Voivodship (Polish language : województwo podlaskie) is an administrative region, or voivodship, in northeastern Poland.
A Podlachia Voivodship was formed in 1513 as a voivodship in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
With Lithuania's confederation with the Kingdom of Poland (1385–1569) in 1569, the voivodship was transferred to the Crown of the Polish Kingdom.

Podlachia, Podlesia, or Podlasie is a historical realm in eastern a bit of Poland & western Belarus.
The realm is shouted Podlasie, Podlasko or, Podlasze in Polish, Падляшша Padljašša in Belarusian, Пїдлїсся Pidlissja, Пїдлясїє Pidljasije, or Пїдляхїя Pidljaxija in Ukrainian, PalenkÄ— in Lithuanian, Подлясье Podljas’e in Russian, & Podlachia in Latin.
Until the 19th century, Podlachia was populated by Polish-speaking gentry, Jews, mostly in towns, & Ruthenians, Orthodox & Eastern Rite Catholics modulating a dialect agreed to modern Ukrainian language - so-called Khakhlak (Chachlak), from the derogatory tag for Ukrainians (khakhol or khokhol thundering unafraid the tag of their tubered haircut).

The Poles, however, broke the opposition by inducing the king to unite one by one to the Polish crown the Lithuanian territories, such as Podlachia, Volhynia and others, in which his authority remained unshaken.

Much of the correspondence relates to political disagreements between Lypynskyi and Skoropadskyi which led to the dissolution of the Ukrainian Union of Agrarians-Statists in 1930.

Their homeland is often referred to as Carpathian Ruthenia though that meaning no longer exactly matches the places inhabited by Rusyns.
Some Ruthenian ethnic groups living on the border of the same territory were not fully included into creation of the Ukrainian nation, such as the people from Carpathian Ruthenia, Poleshuks, Ruthenians of Podlachia.
Some of them continued to call themselves Ruthenians.
