Podunavlje segment of the Frontier comprised parts of southern Bačka and northern Syrmia including towns of Petrovaradin, Šid, Bačka Palanka, Bački Petrovac, Petrovaradinski Šanac (Novi Sad), and Titel.
Between 1922 and 1929, Podunavlje Oblast was one of the administrative units of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
Between 1980 and 1989, Podunavlje was a name of one of the former seven municipalities of Novi Sad City in Serbia.

According to the estimate of the council of municipalities on the territory of Croatian Podunavlje there are between five and six thousand conscripts who would have to join the Croatian army now that the moratorium has expired.
Leskovac says that among mostly rural Serb population in Podunavlje there is still too much prejudice, unnecessary fear and aversion and suspicion towards the Croatian state and its institutions, and he announces that his two sons, when the time comes, will certainly join the Croatian army.
He adds that it is dishonest on the part of the Serbs to receive Croatian pensions, travel around the world with Croatian passports and expect various forms of aid from the Croatian state and at the same time refuse service in its army.

Stanimirovic and Pupovac, two most influential Serb politicians in Podunavlje, threatened to leave the National Committee for confidence building, aware that reality in the Danube river valley (Podunavlje) is far from the promises given generously by Croatian authorities, which had verbally done everything they could to make UNTAES leave on 15 January.
The drop that spilled the cup of their patience was it seems the Decree of Croatian government on housing rent which put the Serbs in Podunavlje into a discriminatory position because it refers only to Podunavljje and not to the whole of Croatia.
The right to acquire a housing unit in Podunavlje, pursuant this decree, was given to everybody who had lived in Croatian Podunavlje and used socially-owned housing units up to 31 March 1991.

Gornje Podunavlje is ecologically a part of the unique Central European floodplain region, an almost 70,000-hectare area where the borders of Serbia, Croatia and Hungary meet.
Lying in the north-west part of Vojvodina Province, Gornje Podunavlje is the largest riparian wetland along the Serbian section of the Danube, its mosaic of plant and animal habitats formed by the meandering history of this great river.
The habitats of Gornje Podunavlje are of outstanding biodiversity, as the species numbers alone illustrate: 1032 plant taxa in the wider area, 55 species of fish, 11 of amphibians, 230 of birds (145 of these breeding here), and 51 mammals, to mention only the most-researched groups.

There is only a list of 25 persons against whom effective procedure for punishable act of war crimes executed on the territory of Croatian Podunavlje was concluded, that is, persons who at the time of execution of crimes had their residence or whereabouts in that area.
Croatian legislation has been applied from 1 June 1997 on the area of Croatian Podunavlje, and this also means application of constitution of the Republic of Croatia, as well as laws, international agreements and other regulations on that area.
We would like to note that the appointed deputy of the state attorney of Vukovarsko-Srijemska county (head of the office in Vukovaru) and deputy of the state attorney of Osjecko-baranjska county (Branch office Beli Manastir) are both the members of Serbian national minority and this has not been presented in the table.

An important shift in the protection of this area happened in 1982, when the Municipal Assemblies of Sombor and Apatin, on the basis of the opinion of Provincial Institute for nature protection brought the decision to declare the Regional park “Gornje Podunavlje” (the Upper Danube Basin) on the territory of 9996 ha.
Therefore the Government of the Republic of Serbia passed a Decree in July 2001 by which 19648 ha of Sombor and Apatin communes were declared the Special nature reserve “Gornje Podunavlje”, which meant the natural asset of the I category.
In the reserve itself a three degree regime of protection was established, by which all territories were put into I, II or III degree of protection.
