RedOrbit - Science - A Molecular Supermatrix of the Rabbits and Hares (Leporidae) Allows for the Identification of ...
The failure of the chromosomal data to provide markers that track descent from common ancestry, particularly at the intergeneric level, was thought to reflect the group's rapid radiation, thus mirroring the pattern suggested by the mtDNA sequence data.
We attribute this large difference to the limited data included for Poelagus (in the four-gene example a single gene PRKCI was included for Poelagus) and the associated problems with the relaxed Bayesian methods when single genes are analysed (Yang and Yoder, 2003).
Of particular importance to the evolution of the le\porids is that the global ice volume was thought to have remained relatively stable and low from 26 to 15 MYA, thus isolating Asia from North America (Zachos et al., 2001).
