Poem code -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The poem code is a simple, and insecure, (Click link for more info and facts about cryptographic method) cryptographic method.
The method is insecure for, if one message is broken by any means (including threat, torture, or even (The science of analyzing and deciphering codes and ciphers and cryptograms) cryptanalysis), future messages will be readable if the source poem has been identified.
Since the poems used must be memorable, there is a temptation to use well known poems or poems from well known poets, eg Racine, Moliere, Keats, etc.

Traditionally poems are distinguished from prose by the arrangement of words, which often rhyme or are arranged rhythmically in a structure known as the poem's metre.
Another distinction can be made between lyric poems (sonnet, ode, elegy, and pastoral are examples of lyrical poetry), and narrative, or story-telling, poetry (ballad, lay, and epic are examples of narrative verse).
These poems are often said to be written in ‘open form’, while more traditional poems are said to be written in ‘fixed’ or ‘closed’ form.

 code
Much of this epic poem is dedicated to conveying and exemplifying the heroic code which values such attributes as strength, courage and honor.
The poem contains several stories in which characters experience divided loyalties, in these situations, the code gives no realistic guidance as to how they are supposed to act or react.
At the center of the epic poem Beowulf is the idea of the heroic code and its tenets.

 Code: Listening for Schubert's 'Doppelgaengers'
I would agree that Schubert has dramatically restructured the way in which one experiences the poem, but it is pointless to chastise the musical introduction, as the poem has already been altered by Schubert's lifting of the word "doppelgänger" from Heine's third stanza and placing it prominently in the title.
The affect of B minor, like the opening of the poem, is relatively calm, but it also foreshadows the "fate" to come.

Specifically, the dissertation examines how some programmers have adopted a literary approach to coding, describing carefully crafted code as "beautiful," "elegant," "expressive," and "poetic"; writing and reading programs as literary texts; and even producing hybrid artifacts that are at once poems and programs.
For the hacker, the central issues have to do with where code comes from, who owns it, who writes it, and how good it is. For the cybertheorist, there is just the impersonal, artifactual monolith: the computer...

Ok, here's the idea: starting with a whole bunch (specifically 1,200) randomly generated groups of words (our "poems"), we are going to subject them to a form of natural selection, killing off the "bad" ones and breeding the "good" ones with each other.
Over time the poems picked by you, and I hope by thousands of other people, will interbreed and more and more interesting poems will emerge.
Decide for yourself: first look at some of the initial random poems then look at some more evolved ones from a dozen or so generations later.

What is this "song-poem"?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The song-poem story involves a succession of publishing and recording companies that have occupied the lowest rungs of the music industry ladder for over 100 years.
Song-poem entrepreneurs (called "song sharks") manipulate these facets of human nature to deceive naïve individuals into subsidizing a quest to have their poem become the lyric of a smash hit record.
In the parlance of this parallel-universe enterprise, "song-poem" is code for the originating verse.

Harwood/Mongrel's Perl software-code poem Lungs-London.pl rewrites William Blake’s 1792 poem London to include commands linking disparate databases of facts (wars, child health indices, life expectancy, average lung capacity) as the basis for an as yet unrealised sound-based performance for the Thames Estuary.
The new poem-code turns these statistics into variables for computing volume, length and number of breaths of an aggregated set of lungs--and their lost capacity.
The resulting projected event would breathe this calculated amount of air through a loudspeaker as a sound memorial to the victims.
