  The Poetry Society (Poetry Review)
To launch the autumn issue of Poetry Review, Dreams of Elsewhere, and our first ever supplement, Contemporary Dutch Poets, Fiona Sampson invited Eva Gerlach to the Dutch Embassy to read some of her featured poems: Eva's readings follow Fiona's readings of John Irons' translations...
Published by the Society and sharing its aim of "helping poets and poetry thrive in Britain today" – a declaration of intent towards all schools and groups of poetry, not merely the fashionable or metropolitan – PR nevertheless comes with that independent room for manoeuvre which is essential if it's to achieve a literary project.
Kyle was the Poetry Society's founder and Director until his death in 1967 at ninety-two; his editorship lasted for a correspondingly substantial thirty-one years, during which the journal expanded its circulation, found wealthy patrons and established a tradition of interest in American verse.

Poetry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Poetry (ancient Greek: ποιεω (poieo) = I create) is traditionally a written art form (although there is also an ancient and modern poetry which relies mainly upon oral or pictorial representations) in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content.
Poetry may use condensed form to convey an emotion or idea to the reader or listener, or it may use devices such as assonance, alliteration and repetition to achieve musical or incantatory effects.
Poetry was employed as a means of recording oral history, storytelling (epic poetry), genealogy, and law.

The Atlantic Online | Fiction & Poetry
An innovative series of poetry readings in which three or four contemporary poets are invited to record a reading of the same classic poem.
One of the biggest changes in modern poetry is its escape from the page to the performance.
In 1891, shortly after the posthumous publication of Emily Dickinson's poetry, Thomas Wentworth Higginson recalled his correspondence with the reclusive poet and reproduced many of her letters and early poems.

What Is Poetry? Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
“Poetry is news / from the frontiers / of consciousness” is Ferlinghetti’s opening reply to the title’s question, and all the answers that follow reiterate that poetry is indeed the domain of those who are truly conscious.
Ferlinghetti began addressing the question of what poetry is in the late 1950s, and has continued to update and enlarge his answer ever since.
He closes with a call to allow poetry to save the world, and by the end of this slim and exhilarating volume, the reader should be at least at the verge of believing in that possibility.

 Houston Poetry Review
The firebrand of this revolution was neither a poet nor a critic of poetry, but the dean of the graduate division in humanities at the University of Iowa.
Despite the emphasis on "voice" by poetry professionals, it is the nature of the institutional workshop process to turn what has traditionally been an individual, even solitary enterprise into a communal and collaborative one.
A poetry profession that focuses attention almost exclusively on its own runs the risk of alienating the common reader and diminishing the art it was established to nurture.

I did not find Logan's review of Salter over the top at all (although I disagree with his assessment of _A Kiss in Space_---and with his assessment of Anne Carson's _Autobiography of Red_, as well).
In the case of this particular review, Logan was perhaps too kind (and it is as savage as I've seen him write).

Poetry Previews: Amiri Baraka (LeRoi Jones)
Baraka's poetry represents the evolution of a mind that has gone through radical changes in ideological influences, but even in these changes there has been a consistent linear development of discovery and rebellion.
The speaker retains his imagination through poetry and (as implied) is therfore able to understand the abstract concept of love.
Rather than cut it down to a simple review, I kept a lot of autobiographical information that I felt was important to understand the growth and develop of Baraka and his work.
