Pohatcong Creek (also called the Pohatcong River) is a tributary of the Delaware River, approximately 35 mi (56 km) long, in northwestern New Jersey in the United States.
It flows southwest, in a valley along the northwestern side of the Pohatcong Mountain ridge, which separates its watershed from that of the Musconetcong River.
It joins the Delaware in Pohatcong Township, approximately 5 mi (8 km) south of Phillipsburg.

About the only time we kids skipped school was in the spring when the sun became warm and the bare beach at the Pohatcong Creek beckoned.
I was one of those who went home and my mother had my lunch ready and was expecting me. However, instead of returning to school, we would sometimes hike out Mine Hill Road to the Pohatcong Creek which had a very deep pool about 100 yards upstream from the roadway.
The shoreline was grass covered and a very large spring fed the creek at that point.

THE MINSI LENAPE tribe were the earliest inhabitants of the area which later became known as Pohatcong Township.
They also settled near the water supplies, building forges and mills which made use of the water power of the Musconetcong River and the Pohatcong Creek.

This house stands above the Pohatcong Creek and consists of 2 distinctly different building styles, constructed approximately 90 years apart.
The wood frame section is said to be the original and one of the oldest houses in Pohatcong Township.

After Hurricane Floyd hit New Jersey hard in September 1999, NRCS staff served on teams to assess stream damage that affected life, health and property.
Pictured here with a local contractor is an NRCS engineer assessing streambank damage to Pohatcong Creek in Warren County.
With funding and engineering assistance from NRCS' EWP program, the Borough of Pohatcong sponsored two projects: shoring up and stabilizing the streambank with stones, and removing fallen trees that impeded the flow of water, causing erosion and silting.

 Tributaries & Watersheds
The Delaware’s main tributaries in New York are the Mongaup and Neversink Rivers and Callicoon Creek; in Pennsylvania, the Lackawaxen, Lehigh, and Schuylkill Rivers feed the Delaware; and from New Jersey, the Musconetcong, Rancocas Creek and the Cooper and Maurice Rivers.
The upper part of the Delaware is shallow and difficult to navigate, so a canal system was built.

I draw your attention to the proposed C1 designation for segments of Pohatcong and Shabbecong Creeks.
We must protect these and other Highlands waterways from further degradation.
