Tennis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tennis is now an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society, by all ages, and in many countries around the world.
Tennis has a long history (deriving from the 'jeu de paume'), but its establishment as the modern sport can be dated to two separate roots.
Tennis comes from the French tenez, the imperative form of the verb tenir, to hold: This was a cry used by the player serving in royal tennis, meaning "I am about to serve!" (rather like the cry "Fore!" in golf).

Spin plays a large part in the modern sport of table tennis, and the composition of the rubber and the combination of sponge and rubber is designed to maximize the amount of spin and speed a player can impart to the ball.

The second point is served from the left, and the third point is served from the right.
The racket used can be either a small size tennis racket or a specific short tennis racket, which is smaller than a standard tennis racket and does not have strings, instead it has a hard plastic mesh face, so it looks almost the same as an ordinary tennis racket.

The points race is a good thing, adopt it fully, promote it properly, forget the past and move on, otherwise, go back to the old 52 week ranking system, the same one that people used to complain about.
The old system where players ducked tournaments and each other to protect their ranking, had poor results dropped, had one good tournament and rode it for a whole year, made it virtually impossible for players to reach the top (hence the great notoriety for getting to number one) was wrong.
Personally the Davis Cup is irrelevant, the idea of team tennis and country against country will not be a big selling point in an individual sport, leave that kind of competition and nationalistic pride to the Olympics, even a revamped Davis Cup will never be a big event in the US.

No photo essays, but yet we have great looking athletes, dressed in the most colorful and attractive clothing, asking and getting the most out of their bodies, in a matter that shows and expresses the human physique at its best, but still is not the subject of photographers envy.
The reason: The photographers assigned to tennis are NOT tennis players, they are capturing pictures that are not properly showing the preparation, anticipation of the ball, the vision of the court, the agony of defeat and the thrill of victory.
I don't like team tennis, our sport is at its best when played one-on one, team tennis especially in the WTT format will never challenge the individual to bring his best to the court and will always be an exhibition and fluff.
