The final rule approving the redesignation of the Pointe Coupee Parish from nonattainment to attainment for ozone and approving the maintenance plan was effective on December 20, 1996, the date of signature of the Federal Register final approval.
Pointe Coupee Parish was included in the Baton Rouge CMSA and was designated as a serious ozone nonattainment area along with the rest of the CMSA.
On December 20, 1995 the State of Louisiana submitted to EPA a request that Point Coupee be removed from the Baton Rouge CMSA and be redesignated attainment for ozone.
