About the same time, the king was forced by the war with the Teutonic Order to pawn the area of Pokucie to the hospodar of Wallachia, Alexander.
Although the city remained under Polish sovereignty, the income of the customs offices in the area was given to Wallachians, after which time the debt was repaid.
Most of Pokucie was captured and looted, including Kołomyja.

In the meantime, Mihai's troops were defeated by revolting Hungarian nobles supported by the Emperor's troops led by general Basta.

After King Sigismund III (Zygmunt III Waza) refused, Mihai sent his troops to take over Pokucie (as an area Moldavians were claiming to be theirs) but Commonwealth hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski met them with resistance.
In the meantime, Mihai Viteazul traveled to Vienna to ask for the Emperor's help, in exchange for assisting the Habsburgs against the Ottomans and Imperial influence over Moldavia, previously aligned with the Commonwealth.

Meanwhile Bogdan of Moldavia invaded Pokucie and in June 1509 defeated a counter attack of the Kamieniec garrison and advanced on Lvov, however they failed to take any important strongholds and retreated, plundering as they went.
A 4,000 strong force of the pospolite ruszenie, was sent to Suczam and completely destroyed the Moldavian army on 4th October 1509 at the Dniestr ford.
Peace was concluded in January 1510 where Moldavia gave back Pokucie as well as their prisoners and the spoils of war.

The "seat" of Horodenka powiat, in Galicia, the Pokucie region, on the highway between Sielec and Zaleszczyki, where the road branches off onto the Horodenka-Sniatyn road.
Horodenka powiat had a population of 66,849 in 48 settlements and 48 tax districts, two powiat courts in Horodenka and Obertyn, belonging to the Kolomyja district court.
This powiat is located completely in Pokucie; it has very fertile soil, a warm climate, tobacco and corn grow here very well.
