Polacak is a center of a powerful Polacak Principality in 10-13 century, which was competing in unifying Eastern Slavs with Russian Nogorod and Ukrainian Kyiv.
A Sofia Cathedral in Polacak was erected to establish Eastern Orthodox rule and compete with Kyiv Sofia.
Polacak becomes a part of the Grand Duche of Lithuania since 1307 and was governed by apointees of Grand Duke.

Polacak (pronounced Polatsak) is the centre of the Polacak district, situated on the Dzvina river, at the place where the Palata flows into it, 100 km to the North-West of Viciebsk (Vitebsk).
Polacak is the most ancient city on Belarusan territory and, according to Scandinavian legends, where it is called "Paltes juborg", one of the most ancient cities of the eastern Slavs.
The number of families in Polacak decreased from 1500 to 102 (by 93%!!!) and the population in the Polacak area shrunk from 163,000 to 40,000 (by 75%).
