  Polish History - Part 1
The tribal rulers of the Polanie who later resided in the castle were called the Piasts, from the name of their legendary ancestor.
Throughout the 10th century, the Polanie and their Piast princes conquered and consolidated their rule over other Lecithic tribes living between the Odra and Bug Rivers, the Baltic coast and the Carpathian Mountains.
The Polanie conquered successively the Kujawianie tribe, whose main castle was in Kruszwica, the Mazowszanie tribe and their castle of Plock, the Ledzianie tribe and Sandomierz, and the Pomeranian tribe and their castles of Gdansk and Wolin.

I think you have touched the separate problem here..but the discussion was not about the general place of orgin of indo-european tribes but if Polanie in todays Great Poland were descended from eastern salvic tribe of the same name.
When you think about it, the routes of the Kurgan people came from the South-East so they would have settled in modern Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus before reaching the area of Poland.
I've never really interested in this problem but I remeber there was at least one additionall theory..however becasuse many your previous statements I find absolutly false (Polanie state started 950 AC, Zaphorozian Cossacks are mostly polish and russian orgin etc.) I must say I'm rather sceptical about accurancy of all your claims..

A common opinion holds that the name Polska comes from the Slavic Polanie tribe who established the Polish state in the 10th century (Greater Poland).
Their name may derive from the Slavic word pole (field), or it may come from the tribal name Goplanie - people living around Lake GopBo - the cradle of Poland mentioned as Goplanie having 400 strongholds circa 845 (Bavarian Geographer).
Conventional etymology of the ethnic name of the Poles relates it more widely to the Polish Polanie, "dwellers of the field"; pol, "field", analogous to Russian polyî, "open land", from Indo-European pelè-, "flat" + -anie, "inhabitants", analogous to Latin -anus, "originating from" (please compare Yuriev-Polsky).

the Polanie or Poliane ('people of the plain'), : "According to Polish myth, the Slavic nations trace their ancestry to three brothers who parted in the forests of Eastern Europe, each moving in a different direction to found a family of distinct but related peoples.
One of these tribes, the Polanie or Poliane ('people of the plain'), settled in the flatlands that eventually formed the heart of Poland, lending their name to the country.
Since 'polana' is Polish for meadow, glen or clearing, Polanie can be interpreted as 'the people of the meadows.' Again, since Malopolska is a region that is hilly and meadows there would be small, it is tempting to speculate that originally the term Malopolska referred to a region which had small meadows.
