Polemic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Polemic is the art or practice of inciting disputation or causing controversy, for example in religious, philosophical, or political matters.
As such a polemic text on a topic is written specifically to dispute or refute a topic that is widely viewed to be a "sacred cow" or beyond reproach, in an effort to "stir up trouble".
Polemic is also a branch of theology, pertaining to the history or conduct of ecclesiastical controversy.

Examining the etymology of the word, as shown in the dictionary entry at the end of this essay, the word polemic is derived from the Greek "war" and was originally used in theological contexts.
They may appear inadvertently in some polemical pieces, but they don't help the effectiveness of such a piece as polemical writing (on the other hand, the appearance of objectivity and fairness, is just another trick in the bag of the polemical writer – call it camouflaged polemic, or polemic masquerading as objective presentation).
The polemical historian, on the other hand, is fighting for a cause, against another cause, and is simply abusing history as the raw material in support the argument.

Dishonesty is not implicit in "polemic." Unless, of course, you believe that nothing should ever be attacked, and you feel that a polemic in itself is indefensible.
Arguably on subjects on which a person feels strongly, a "polemic" is a more ethically appropriate form of discourse than an approach that purports to be dispassionate and objective about which the author does not reveal his or her strong personal opinions or involvement.

open polemic abandons leninist democratic centralism
The Open Polemic stated that this form of organisation would have to be surrendered in order for Communists to unite in a single democratic centralist organisation.
Unless the Open Polemic is indulging in mere phrase-mongering, it must signify a departure from the concept of democratic centralism first defined by Lenin, and defended by Marxist-Leninists.
It does the Open Polemic no credit when they assert falsely that Partisan, in rejecting their formulation, is therefore somehow in favour of what they call "leader centralism".

 ISML ISSUE 5
The assertion that Open Polemic argues that, "democratic centralism was the cloak under which revisionism triumphed and subverted the communist revolution" is a figment of Kumar's imagination.
As Open Polemic pointed out in its paper: "Revisionism is politically and organisationally manifested within the working class movement by the trends of anarcho-communism on the left and reformo-communism on the right and by the various conjunctions of both of these trends.
Open Polemic took issue with the summary of the London Conference, written by Hari Kumar, as follows: "The assertion that Open Polemic argues that, 'democratic centralism was the cloak under which revisionism triumphed and subverted the communist revolution' is a figment of Kumar's imagination.

Open Polemic argues that in the same way that Communists today will have varying interpretations and shades of opinion as to the events of say the English Civil War or the Paris Commune, so we will have to learn to accept differing interpretations on the history of the Soviet Union.

Greek Philosophy [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Parmenides of Elea (born about 511), affirmed the one unchanging existence to be alone true and capable of being conceived, and multitude and change to be an appearance without reality.
This doctrine was defended by his younger countryman Zeno in a polemic against the common opinion, which sees in things multitude, becoming, and change.
Zeno propounded a number of celebrated paradoxes, much debated by later philosophers, which try to show that supposing that there is any change or multiplicity leads to contradictions.

For a case study in anti-AIT polemic, I have chosen the article “An obscurantist argument” by the Dutch-Canadian scholar Robert J. Zydenbos.
