Kresy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During 1921—1939 (Second Polish Republic), Kresy comprised of the following voivodships (from North to South and then to the West, see the 1939 map in the Voivodships of Poland article).
As a consequence of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, on September 17, 1939 the Soviet Union occupied Kresy and Białystok Voivodship, and a significant part of the Polish population was deported to the Soviet Union.
After the German invasion, a significant part of the Kresy population was transferred to Germany as workforce (Ostarbeiter, "Eastern workers").

Podlasie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is located between Biebrza River (north) and its natural continuation to the south — Polesie area.
Some derive it from the word les, las, i.e., "forest" in Slavic languages, i.e., it is area near forest or area of forests, and in this sense Podlasie is synonymous with the adjacent Polesie.
At present the name of Podlasie is used especially for Polish part of the region, which is traditionally divided between North (north of Western Bug River) and South Podlasie.

Under official practice, reports from the eastern voivodships were forwarded not only to the government in Warsaw (Warsaw archives!), but to the provincial voivodship offices too.
Especially, in the case of central voivodships abutting the Borderlands (for example Lublin), reports, notes, police material from the Vilna region, Polesie or Wohlynia etc. were distributed amongst local authorities.
This was because the national and religious structure of Lublin or Bialystok voivodships was non-homogenous, especially, in Chelm and Podlasie regions, which had a relatively high percentage of Ruthenians, who – in the opinion of the Polish authorities - could be willing to listen to ‘hostile propaganda’.

 Soviet Occupation of Poland 1939
The odd 6,000 in the northern voivodships were completely new foundations.): the University of Wilno was reinstated and recovered some of its former lustre; so did the "Lyceum" of Krzemieniec.
The entire Ukrainian or Ruthenian population is grouped in the four provinces of the South-East, whereas the largest grouping of White Russians is to be found in the province of Polesie - containing the marshes of the Prypec - in the province of Nowogrodek and the Eastern part of the province of Bialystok.
In the province of Polesie it was used against villages in arrear with tax payment and grain deliveries, but it occurred in the East Carpathians no less than in the neighbourhood of Bialystok, where the village of Zacisze was doomed to destruction in the same way.

The Lubelskie voivodship is located in the eastern part of the country, between the Vistula and Bug Rivers.
The fact that the Lubelskie voivodship lies in the immediate neighbourhood of Belarus and Ukraine provides excellent opportunities for economic development of the region, which is often described as Poland's gateway to the East (in 1995 the arrangements of founding Polish-Ukrainian Euroregion Bug were signed).
The voivodship's prestigious reputation in the sciences is due to the Lublin's Marie Curie University (27,500 students) and the Lublin Catholic University (17,000 students).

Although the basic philosophy of the program remained unchanged, effectiveness in delivery was much improved thanks to the systematic, interactive and strategic approach used in working with potential beneficiaries to design projects for possible foundation support.
Project impacts defined in terms of positive social change were harder to measure, but were nevertheless clearly apparent in projects that reached beyond the local scale of the backyard.
