Polgara the Sorceress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Polgara and her twin sister Beldaran were raised by their "uncles", the deformed dwarf Beldin and the twin sorcerers Beltira and Belkira (all disciples of Aldur, like Belgarath), after the apparent death of their mother, Poledra.
Polgara and Beldaran were identical twins, but Aldur and their mother made physical changes directed at Polgara while they were still in the womb.
Polgara bitterly resented the "loss" of her sister, who had been the center of her life, but the shared loss eventually brought father and daughter closer together, and Polgara was presented for the first time as beautiful Polgara the Sorceress.

 POLGARA The Sorceress: Review
Polgara at the time of this book is about 3,000 years old (but still a "very foxy lady") who together with her father Belgarath is one of the main disciples of one of the good gods, Aldur, aiding him in his fight against his evil brother Torak.
Although Polgara is not the central character in the series, I think she is the strongest and the most wonderful woman in series fiction, although Modesty Blaise could give her a run for her money.
While Polgara is not the central character in the series itself, she is primarily responsible for the development of Garion (the main character) to be the one destined to finally defeat Torak.

Polgara, daughter of Belgarath and Poledra, narrates this epic final volume in the Eddingses' Belgariad and Malloreon fantasy cycles.
Polgara is one of my favorite characters from the series and even if she is not yours it is a great book.

Polgara the Sorceress is an attempt to tell the same story (or at least the last 3000 years of it, Polgara being a bit younger than her father) from a woman's point of view.
Despite being told from her point of view, it's hard to feel a lot of sympathy for Polgara's seemingly irrational bursts of temper toward her father, especially considering that both of them are acting under instructions from the gods and don't have a lot of choice about what they do.
Polgara's temper is explained away as the effect of a difficult childhood, but really, you'd think that after 3000 years she would have learned to cope....

Polgara the Sorceress Book at Shop Ireland
Polgara the sorceress was to be frank one of the best books I have read for a very long time.
The story, told in Polgara's own words, is in places funny and in places sad, but there are no unlikely swings in mood or pace which would spoil the story, and it is all told with the same perspective and imposing presence anyone who has read the original series will connect with the matriarchal sorceress.
"Polgara the sorceress" is a book that can be liked by everybody that enjoys reading an engaging fantasy book, but will only be fully appreciated by those who have already read "The Belgariad", "The Malloreon" and "Belgarath the sorcerer" (yes, in that order).

The main character is a woman called Polgara, a sorceress and daughter of the most powerful and renowned sorcerer to live, Belgarath.
The premise behind the whole series is that an event occurred early on in the life of the universe that divided it into two possibilities.
Polgara was never my favourite character and it would probably been better if Eddings had chosen Silk's character to give a novel to themself.

This enormous tome focuses on Belgarath's daughter Polgara, the 3,000-year-old shape-shifting sorceress, and her tumultuous world of magic, one-eyed evil gods, kings, swords, orbs, and whatnot.
Polgara is an engaging narrator and even though she's going events that we know a lot about already, her perspective is both different from the omniscient narrator of the series and Belgarath's from the other book.
The book, Polgara the Sorceress, is a tale of a woman who experiences three thousand years of triumphs and heartbreaks.

 Tomes of Spellcasting--Polgara the Sorceress
And through Polgara's story, she and Garion learned of Aldur's hidden disciple and the role they all played in halting Torak for a time, and setting in motion the events that would ultimately lead Ce'Nedra to her royal husband.
Like its predecessor, Polgara the Sorceress is a pseudo-autobiographical novel of the life of Polgara, the first acknowledged disciple of the god Aldur.
If anything, perhaps it is the more "present" role that Polgara played in the lives of the people: as the daughter of Belgarath, as the Duchess of Erat, as the Aunt Pol who dominated the lives of the descendants of the Rivan King.

Most of it proves what we already know: Belgarath spent most of his time recovering from his life's great tragedy and was greatly involved in the grand story but had no strength nor desire to dedicate his time for problems smaller than the fate of the universe.
Polgara is involved with the subplots and generally doing her best keeping the western world out of trouble until the final showdown.
The second part starts when Polgara accepts her new role and leading a more normal life, which is when the book gets boring, but the climax is worth is and if Belgarath's story got the most laughs, Polgara laughs last and hardest.

This time around, Polgara (daughter of Belgarath) relates her version of the tale that led to the events of The Belgariad.

Polgara the Sorceress - David Eddings - Review - Old wolves and such
Polgara the Sorceress is undoubtedly one of the best books written by David and Leigh Eddings and probably deserves pride of place in anyone's fantasy collection.
The scripting throughout the book is very accurate but that is not unexpected from the Eddingses who have built up a huge dossier of information on their universe and even released as a book.
Polgara character was a good choice as she is undoubtedly one of the most powerful women in this universe and her description of events and the conflict between herself and her father is nothing short of enjoyable.

Polgara the Sorceress - David Eddings - Review - The final word?
This is almost certainly the last entry in the Belgariad and Mallorean series, and tells the story of Polgara, from before her birth, until just before the start of the Belgariad.
The first is something of a side issue as far as the main plot is concerned, and tells of Polgara's ultimatly futile attempts to end the Arendish civil wars by helping the Wacite Arends, the most civilised of the Arends.
Even in Belgarath the Sorcerer, this part was largly skipped over, but here we get to see the main incidents from several generations of the family, and the foiling of repeated Grolim plots to either kill or subvert the family.

This is less a review and more a defence of these two prequels, as all the time I was reading them I had to remind my self that the annoying aspect actually made perfect sense.
Of courses the Eddingses never come out and explicitly say this, but they do say a lot about how history has been repeating, so I feel it is a valid extrapolation, which allows me to continue to enjoy some of my favourite light fantasy reading.
However, one thing thst is indefensible is the cover art on Polgara, she is suppoed to be the the most beautiful woman in the world, and instead she looks like a swarthy man with no figure.
