The County Police Commissioners report to the Government of Sweden, not to the National Police Board and by this it may seem that the National Police Board is not actually involved in the county police matters.
Before 1998, the County Police Departments were supervised by the respective County Administrative Boards of Sweden, with the 21 County Governors as the highest authority for the police in each county.
