A police helicopter is a helicopter used in police operations.
Police helicopters are commonly used for traffic control, ground support, search and rescue, high-speed car pursuits, observation, air patrol, and riot control.
Police helicopters are normally equipped with variants such as night vision, f.l.i.r., infrared, surveillance cameras, radar, specialized radio systems and engines,loudspeaker systems, tear gas dispensers, searchlights, winches and winch cables, flashing light beacons, police resque equipment, and special seating.

A Suffolk police spokesman said the matter was being treated very seriously because of the base's sensitivity, but acknowledged it was possible they were simply asylum seekers who had had the misfortune to choose the wrong lorry.

An eyewitness told the Albuquerque Journal that he saw the APD helicopter circle the Krispy Kreme and land in a nearby dirt field.
