 History of the Palatine Police Department
After the 1887 reorganization of the Village government, a Fire, Water and Police Committee was formed and on April 17, 1889 the appointment of the constable was assigned to this committee.
Police magistrates were compensated by receiving a percentage of fines levied, but when state law required that a salary be set the Village appropriated $4800 on February 27, 1961.
Many police stars were purchased until hard times in the 30's forced a vote to remove "police stars from all autos except the regular police officers." Special police were paid substantial amounts of money through the years, particularly during periods when one policeman left and another was not yet hired.
