After Polikarpov's death, on 30 July 1944, the U-2 was redesignated Po-2 in his honour, and post-war it continued in production in the Soviet Union for several years.
Built in large numbers in Poland as the CSS-13, the Polikarpov U-2 (known as the Po-2 after the designers death in 1944) was used in a wide variety of roles both military and civil.
Span 37 ft 4 3/4 in (11.40 m); length 26 ft 9 3/4 in (8.17 m); height 10 ft 2 in (3.10 m); wing area 356.86 sq ft (33.15 sq m).

The Polikarpov Po-2 biplane was a two-seat, single-engine trainer and utility aircraft used for night raiding by the DPRK Air Force during the Korean War.
After Polikarpov’s death on 30 July 1944, the U-2 was re-designated the Po-2 in his memory.

 NZFPM - Soviet Women Combat Pilots
The Polikarpov PO-2 was a 1927 design, powered by a single 115 hp engine giving a top speed of 81 mph and a range of 280 miles but it made a significant impact on the German troops by maintaining a sustained air presence over the battle zone, continuously harassing the Germans.
The PO-2 was highly manoeuvrable and the slow speeds made night interception by the fast German fighters a difficult undertaking.
With Maj Marina Raskova as Commander and Maj Yevdokia Bershanskaya as 2nd in command women went through an intense training schedule - 2 years work into 6 months.
