Cavalry techniques were an innovation of equestrian nomads of the Central Asian and Iranian steppe and pastoralist tribes such as the Persian Parthians and Sarmatians.
Cavalry found new success in Imperial operations (irregular warfare), where modern weapons were lacking and the slow moving infantry-artillery train or fixed fortifications were often ineffective against native insurgents (unless the natives offered a fight on an equal footing, as at Tel-el-Kebir, Omdurman, etc).
Cavalry "flying columns" proved effective, or at least cost-effective, in many campaigns—although an astute native commander (like Samori in western Africa, Shamil in the Caucasus, or any of the better Boer commanders) could turn the tables and use the greater mobility of their cavalry to offset their relative lack of firepower compared to European forces.

At the outbreak of the Polish Defence War of 1939, the Polish cavalry units were organised in 11 cavalry brigades, each composed of 3 to 4 cavalry regiments with organic artillery, armoured unit and infantry battalion.
Polish cavalry units took part in most of the battles of 1939 and on several occasions proved to be the elite of the Polish Army.

The brigade uses army and air force aviation assets as a means of transportation to conduct three types of airborne operations: mass drop with static-line or stabilizer-activated parachutes, high-altitude high-opening (HAHO), and high-altitude low-opening (HALO) using ram-air, square, steerable parachutes.
Using army aviation assets from the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade, the 6th Air Assault Brigade conducts air assault operations to seize and destroy the enemy's key objective, to cut off enemy forces in the main avenue of approach of friendly ground forces, and to delay the approach of the enemy's reserve forces from the rear.

The 13th at Balaclava: Charge of the Light Brigade
On receipt of the order from Lord Lucan the reply of Lord Cardigan was, "Very good, sir." To the Light Brigade he then gave the word of command, "The Brigade will advance." The balance of evidence goes to show that no trumpet call was used.
Parties of the enemy's cavalry, regular or Cossack, were ready to beset any stragglers, and there is no doubt that the death-roll of the Balaclava charge was greatly increased by the butchery of wounded men on the field itself, and the spearing of armed or unarmed dismounted officers and privates of the Light Brigade.
But on went the Brigade, cutting their way through the Battery in front and through the whole force of the Russian Cavalry and Infantry, who were formed up in rear of the guns.
