Economic Agendas in Civil Wars: A Conference Summary   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
A small group of well-organized political élites often have powerful interests in sustaining civil conflicts due to the enormous profits which accrue to such groups through their control of territory and the means of violence.
Political factors were seen by many as important (although not exclusive) root causes in the outbreak of conflict.
The political aim of seizing a state or seceding from it can be the primary engines of conflicts which then "mutate" into economic agendas: pillaging, seizing land, exploiting labor and controlling trade.

 Political agendas and tearful goodbyes
This year, the volatile mix of country music and political opinions gave talk-show hosts plenty of fodder for fiery debates.
At a London concert in March, Dixie Chicks' lead vocalist Natalie Maines declared that the Texas-based band was "ashamed" that President Bush is from Texas.
This year's Country Music Association Awards show was generally free of political posturing, as the industry joined together to honor Cash, who died Sept. 12 (and who posthumously won three trophies).

Political Themes in the National Science Standards
Multiculturalism holds the politically correct view that all cultures and ideas are of equal validity, and that there is, therefore, no real or universal truth.
The political agendas and themes of the National Science Standards are part of the federal curriculum, which requires that its worldview must be integrated into all subjects.
While integration of academic content between subjects is a good idea, the promotion of political agendas across subject areas is a bad idea and falls under the heading of indoctrination, not education.

What is at stake in Australia's "History Wars" Part 1: Competing political agendas
The key question is not whether Windschuttle and his supporters have a political agenda, but the content of their arguments and, even more importantly, what their arguments signify.
Every historian has a political outlook, which shapes their method, whether or not they are conscious of it, and whether or not they choose to espouse definite political views.
In any historical study, political views—of the individual historian and in the wider society—exert their influence upon which facts and events are selected, and how these facts are related to each other.

The political agenda question was posed by the Panel directly to Dan Rather and his producer, Mary Mapes, who appear to have drawn the greatest attention in terms of possible political agendas.
The Panel does note, however, that on such a politically charged story, coming in the midst of a presidential campaign in which military service records had become an issue, there was a need for meticulous care to avoid any suggestion of an agenda at work.
