The Yale Political Union, the oldest student political organization in the United States, is often the largest organization on campus, and is advised by alumni political leaders such as John Kerry, Gerald Ford, and George Pataki.
Yale historian Gaddis Smith notes “an ethos of organized activity” at Yale during the 20th century that led John Kerry to lead the Yale Political Union's Liberal Party, George Pataki the Conservative Party, and Joseph Lieberman to manage the Yale Daily News.
Yale, like other Ivy League schools, instituted policies in the early twentieth century designed to artificially increase the proportion of upper-class white Christians of notable families in the student body (see Numerus clausus), and was one of the last of the Ivies to eliminate such preferences, beginning with the class of 1970.

Italian general election, 2006 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Union asked instead for an early general election, to be held possibly in February 2006.
Several newspapers politically oriented to the left nicknamed the electoral system proposal by the House of Freedoms as "Truffarellum", after "truffa" (Italian for "fraud") and the "Mattarellum", the commonest name for current Italian electoral law.
Since the opposition coalition is clearly against the new constitution reform, defining it as dangerous, separatist, and somehow antidemocratic [16], a prospective referendum might be called for 2006 or 2007, in any case after the general election.

Nicaragua The National Opposition Union (UNO) Coalition - Flags, Maps, Economy, History, Climate, Natural Resources, Current Issues, International Agreements, Population, Social Statistics, Political System
At the time of the elections, of the UNO coalition's fourteen political parties, four were considered conservative, seven fell under a broad definition of centrist parties, and three had traditionally been on the far left of the political spectrum (see table 10, Appendix A).
A loose coalition of political parties, UNO traces its origins back to the Nicaraguan Democratic Coordinating Group (Coordinadora Democrática Nicaragüense--CDN), which was formed in 1982 by opposition groups that had protested actions of the Sandinista government as early as November 1980.
By the time the various political parties coalesced into an electoral coalition in September 1989, the fourteen political parties that had evolved from the earlier opposition parties were committed enough to the goal of opposing the Sandinista government that they united around a single candidate.

The early April electoral disaster for the coalition, followed by the departure of the Union of Christian Democrats---one of the coalition’s trifecta of political parties---was simply too much for the increasingly unpopular Berlusconi to withstand and thus he resigned as Prime Minister.
Berlusconi’s political coalition, Polo delle Libertà, or House (or Pole) of Freedoms, the longest serving government since Italy became a republic, finally came to an end this week.
While the Union of Christian Democrats were the first to leave the alliance, the roots of the breakup can be traced to the schism between the Northern League and the formerly fascist National Alliance as documented by The Economist:

Conspiracy and the State of the Union
Political criticism is a vexed but noble attempt to think past the limits of official opinion and earnestly diagnose the legitimacy of our political institutions and their occupants.
The only rigorous meaning that the phrase "conspiracy theory" can have would be that political crimes involving more than one actor are usually exceptional episodes unrelated to one another - rather than the ongoing, systemic and unacknowledged relationships between authorities and the criminals they are paid to hinder and to punish.
A critic is an interpreter who uses his or her mind and heart to clarify a situation or a text for the effective benefit of the larger public.

TAP: Vol 10, Iss. 46. Solidarity Ever?. Jeff Faux.
The report is a useful reprise of the economic arguments for the importance of unions, summarizing statistics and academic scholarship that make the case for why unions are in the economic interest not only of their membership, but of all workers.
Politically, labor leaders who support a broad, "rights-conscious" agenda—from abortion to welfare—are regularly criticized as being out of touch precisely because their members prefer a narrower agenda more directly relevant to their immediate needs.
For example, it is not enough for a majority of workers to formally request union recognition in writing; once a request is made the employers have the right to demand an election, during which they can keep unions off the premises while management threatens a captive audience of workers.

The union movement must stand for the expansion of democracy:  Organized labor must stand AND fight for an expansion of democracy beyond the limits of formal legality.  It must be the champion of the fight against racism, sexism, hetero-sexism, xenophobia, religious bias, and other forms of intolerance.
Unions should only enter into new industrial sectors, occupations or regions if and when they are prepared to make the long-term commitment to that sector and have demonstrated a willingness to work with other unions in that same sector or region.
The union movement must be unapologetically pro-public sector and pro-public service.
