Topic: Politics of Asia

Politics of Asia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Politics of Asia are extremely varied as would be expected of such a large landmass and a diverse population.
Civilisation has a long history throughout Asia and it probably involved politics right from the start although some of the earliest discernable political structures arose in Mesopotamia with the advent of writing offering details of these politics.
Much of the political climate in Asia today is affected by colonialism and imperialism of the past with some states retaining close links with their former colonial governors while others involved in bitter independence struggles the consequences of which continue to be felt.

BBC News | South Asia | Nepal: Politics and pessimism
It remains one of the poorest countries in the world, its political system hampered by corruption, political in-fighting and the failure over the last five years of any party to gain an overall majority in parliament.
Politics may be less important to many people, but it is certainly more transparent.
The wide range of political opinion is reflected in a press and media that for the most part can function freely, even if some pro-Maoist publications have been closely watched by the authorities.

Political dynasties are nothing new in the world but much of it has been wiped out, as is the case of France, or ceremonially kept as a political settlement as in the United Kingdom.
Unfortunately, the Muslim political world is yet to be democratic where individual freedom and the right to dissent are anything but honoured.
However, in politics, it is naïve to think that young age is imbued with stronger zeal or higher intelligence to produce something good.

 Women and Politics in Asia
Opportunities for women to be represented in political bodies and to influence political matters are an important parameter of democracy and thus an integral aspect of political development and the democratization process in Asia.
Studies on women and politics have suggested a variety of possible explanations for the paucity of women leaders and the marginalization of women in politics.
The political status of Asian women remains a scantily explored area, and available literature on the subject mostly consists of islands of isolated studies touching one or the other aspect of the issue.

Manas: History and Politics of India
By the late 1960s, Indira Gandhi had engineered a split in the Congress, as the only means to ensure her political survival, and the Congress had been reduced to a sh adow of its former self.
An internal emergency, which placed almost the entire opposition behind bars, was proclaimed in May 1975, and only removed in 1977; and the same opposition, which hastily convened to ch art its strategy, achieved in delivering the Congress party its first loss in national elections.
This government, serving various political interests, lasted a mere three years, and Indira Gandhi rode a large wave of victory in 1980.

This awakening of an Islamic political culture may be cause for cautious optimism, because it is better to have religious groups, even the most orthodox or radical, operating within democratic processes rather than going underground.
Malaysia and Indonesia, Southeast Asia's only Muslim-majority nations and traditionally exemplars of openness and diversity, are facing the consequences of Muslim political parties flexing their muscles and winning over the masses.
Yet some political analysts believe the Islamists are already approaching the peak of their power, with Southeast Asia's vast diversity acting as a natural brake—Malaysia's 5.4 million Chinese, for example, are unlikely to tolerate the imposition of ShariŒa law.
