Kosovo Since 1999 By Am Johal
Demilitarization of the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) and its transformation into a civilian organization and it also its involvement of its political wing in Kosovo politics is another segment that arose from the outcome of post-99 constellation.
Though, the political scene is constructed mainly out of the peaceful resistance movement of the 90-ies and the former KLA mainstream, the background policy orientation doesn't differ as much, also taking the specific political climate in Kosovo, where we have a twofold chain of responsibility conductance, with UNMIK and the local governmental institutions.
Kosovo politicians view Macedonia and Albania as two good neighbors with whom they want to generate friendly and serious cooperation, and I think the prospects of regional cooperation and EU integrative processes will promote the kind of relationship that would prevent any sort of tensions between Kosovo and the other countries of the region.

Strategic Insights -- Kosovo: From Interim Status to Enhanced Sovereignty
Kosovo needs to move to some form of enhanced sovereignty but its new governance structure should, at least for the immediate future, be something less than “final” status, or full statehood.
Consequently Kosovo, has been unable to develop an adequate level of institutional capacity and legitimacy, and also sufficient minority and human rights protections, which are necessary for the development of a self-sustaining democratic polity with a viable political and socio-economic infrastructure.
Kosovo Serb leaders have tried to emphasize the need for full realization of democratic standards in Kosovo prior to any kind of enhanced sovereignty or independence for the region, as well as the need for “realistic decentralization,” and the full participation of their minority community in Kosovo’s governing institutions.

After that election, Kosovo's political parties formed an all-party unity coalition and elected Ibrahim Rugova as President and Bajram Rexhepi (PDK) as Prime Minister.

Bosnian Institute News: Veton Surroi enters politics
What is becoming clearer by the day in Kosovo politics is the urgent need for an alternative to the two big party blocs, to broaden voters' choices in the autumn polls.
The two blocs are the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, the firmest established party since 1989, and the parties of the "war" bloc, which emerged after the 1999 conflict from the Kosovo Liberation Army movement.
Kosovo now desperately needs a new option, offering not only a different concept of governing but also opposition, as well as fresh initiatives that differ from the old fashioned romantic, folkloric or quasi-patriotic ideas we have experienced in Kosovo so far.

 Making Kosovo sustainable (SETimes.com)
In a land of politics and nothing but politics, Kosovo's politicians lack strong connections to their constituents who are looking for a roadmap to prosperity when the status talks are over.
This is not to say that Kosovo's people do not think the status question is critical, only that by now they are convinced that some kind of independence is inevitable and that they want their leaders to move on to the next problem.
Kosovo’s growth rates have been poor essentially due to declining donor assistance in the post-conflict and post-reconstruction phase.

Kosovo is not burdened only by tangled historical heritage, but also by numerous very intricate relations from the most recent past.
For a sound approach to numerous problems in Kosovo, it is necessary to legally or otherwise clearly resolve the dilemma whether this sovereignty persists in the existing conditions or whether it is temporarily interrupted, which should be logical in view of the fact that every Yugoslav form of executing power in Kosovo has been annulled.
Information are spreading around Kosovo, media inclusive, which lead to the conclusion that certain French circles and media are not with very good intentions biased in favour of one of the sharply opposed political extremes in the Albanian movement.

Kosovo Albanian society showed welcome maturity in recent months as it reacted calmly to the indictment for war crimes of Prime Minister Haradinaj and the anniversary of the March 2004 riots.
Otherwise, Kosovo is likely to return to instability sooner rather than later and again put at risk all that has been invested in building a European future for the Western Balkans.
Even though the international community is beginning to move Kosovo toward some form of independence, the escalation of internal political conflict and the April 2005 murder of former Prime Minister Haradinaj's younger brother show that serious risks of instability remain.

Kosovo The Politics of Identity and Space (Routledge Advances in European Politics) by De Kostovicova in Hardcover at ...
The text is woven around the story of ethnic segregation in Kosovo's education system and its impact on the emergence of exclusive notions of nation and homeland among the Albanian and Serbian youth in segregated schools in the province during the 1990s.
While focusing on the issue of education in post-autonomy Kosovo, this monograph critically explores the wider contest of the Albanian resistance, including the emergence of the parallel state as an integral component of non-violent resistance.
Ultimately, this book provides an insight not only into events that led to the bloodshed in Kosovo in the late 1990s, but also show that the legacy of segregation is one of the most major challenges the international community faces in its efforts to establish an integrated multiethnic society in the province.
