DOHA, Qatar, Feb. 28--Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah Al-Thani pledged backing for Hamas Monday following its victory in last month’s Palestinian elections, rejecting Israeli-led efforts to isolate the Islamic militant group, AFP said.
Qatar had already called upon the international community earlier this month to respect the will of the Palestinian people following Hamas’s sweeping election victory.
The officer said the action was not politically motivated.
