Vanuatu's new Prime Minister, Ham Lini, concedes Australia's threat to cut aid to the country played a role in last weekend's defeat of his predecessor, Serge Vohor, in a parliamentary vote of no confidence.
Last month, Mr Downer threatened to cut non-humanitarian aid to Vanuatu claiming that Mr Vohor had abandoned good governance, interfered with the judiciary and threatened the media.
But, Mr Lini said Australia was not alone is putting on the pressure.
