Just after midnight on Friday the 10th of August 1979 the second tornado to hit Crockery Township since W.W. 2 ripped a path of destruction as it sailed across from west to east.
It passed to the east across Polkton township and on to Kent County before dissipating.
At first the Weather Bureau thought that the storm was the result of what they called a "down burst" where air is funneled down from the jet stream in a thunder storm, But a few days later after observing the damage they concluded that it was indeed a tornado.

Polkton Township--Laidlaw Waste Systems is installing a $3.5 million methane recovery system at its Polkton Landfill and plans to sell the electricity converted from the gas to Consumers Power Co. Officials said the methane will be enough to generate electricity for 5,000 homes.
The company also is constructing another at a landfill near Flint and has eight other proposals awaiting development and approval.
The Polkton power plant is scheduled to be completed by June 1.
