It wasn't just their peculiar looks (the band members all wore identical jump suites and dark fl glasses and P marked badges on stage) that gave out a strong impact, but it was more about their ultra energetic performance that turned the place upside down, just as DEVO did so many years ago.
Formerly four-membered Japanese group Polysics have taken that Devo-esque appeal and fuel injected it with a high-octane gasoline.
Polysics takes nerd chic, hard-rock electronica, and nuclear atom-splitting energy in hyperdrive and throws it into a cyclone of fun.

Polysics are not afraid to just let themselves be themselves.
Like most Polysics songs, the intro one starts with a synth loop, before the rest of the instruments join in.
Saying it is a bizarre Polysics song doesn't really cover it, considering the usual insane nature of their music, but this one is considerably wacky.

Skate and Annoy: Music Reviews - Polysics: Polysics or Die!   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Polysics is Japan’s answer, or rather compulsive obsession with Devo.
Polysics, on the other hand, seems to have only a superficial obsession with Devo that they solve with costume props and the occasional term lyric with the right word, like “blockhead.” Musically, they sound more like an anime soundtrack or a Japanese TV commercial.
Polysics are a fun band to watch, but like a lot of Japanese pop culture, they are mostly style over substance.

 NOW Magazine - Music in Toronto, SEPTEMBER 22 - 28, 2005
More amazing still is the fact that Polysics, the cult synth-punk crew founded by Hiroyuki Hayashi in 1997 that began as a cheeky Devo homage, have blossomed into a phenomenon in Japan and beyond.
Noya claims it became her "personal mission" to sign Polysics after seeing one of their infamous live shows (during which Hayashi and his bandmates perform a wacky dance they've dubbed the "technosaur") when they were signed to the smaller and also California-based Asian Man Records.
Similarly, she says, people should think of Polysics not as just a Japanese band but a global one, because they translate all nationalities and cultures to their own peculiar brand of nuttiness.

SPIN.com: Polysics, Now Is The Time! (Tofu)
The Tokyo quartet takes Devo as a stylistic jump-off (the band's red jumpsuits and opaque fl sunglasses are a dead giveaway), downs six espressos, force-feeds the rhythm section steroids, turns the volume up as high as it will go, and leaps, fists flying, out of your system.
The resulting tone is Polysics' flagship sound: a jagged, crystalline six-string assault.
