  Hellenion
We are a diverse group of Hellenic polytheists, sharing the common goal of living a life, both common and individual, of piety and proper respect for the gods of Olympos and ancient Hellenic tradition.
We work to support present and future Hellenic polytheists by sharing research, providing for religious needs of family and community alike, and establish a stable presence on which to found a lasting future for the practice of our faith.
Hellenion is a Hellenic polytheist organization that began online with the intent of drawing together the classical Pagan community to promote fellowship, free exchange of ideas, scholarship, and spirituality.

Polytheists of the time of Rasulullah also used to pray and beg Allah when they were in trouble.
It is true that, since idolaters are polytheists, their protext does not rescue them from the punishment of polytheism, but is not polytheism to put His beloved human creatures as intermediaries.
Whereas, the polytheists, mentioned in the ayats believed that the idols were worth worshiping, and they were polytheists because of this misbelief.

 Surah 9:5
If you repent, [O polytheists,] it shall be better for you but if you turn your backs [paying no heed], then know that you shall not be able to escape God's judgment.
On the other hand, if these people are not polytheists, they are not sentenced to death, however they are forced to become subservient to the believers of the messenger.
The Quran, in Surah Al-Qamar, while addressing the polytheists of Arabia, at the beginning of the Prophet ‘s ministry, has referred to some of the more known among the rejecters of the previous messengers of God and has mentioned the consequences that they were subjected to face because of their rejection.

THE REPUDIATION OF POLYTHEISTS DURING HAJJ
Repudiation of polytheists is one of the sacraments of hajj
Now I would like to make a few points: Declaring one’s repudiation of polytheists, which constitutes one of the fundaments of monotheism and is one of the political duties of the hajj pilgrimage, must take place during hajj in the form of demonstrations and marches held with the utmost firmness and dignity.
Be that as it may, announcing one’s repudiation of polytheists during hajj renews the promise of struggle and provides an exercise in organising the combatants for continuing the battle with unbelief, polytheism and the idol worshippers.

"Reining in Riyadh" by Dore Gold
In the name of Wahhabism, its adherents were extraordinarily brutal toward noncombatants, including women and children, delegitimizing them as mushrikun, or polytheists, who did not have any right to live.
Such brutality is, in fact, at the core of modern terrorism, for the early Wahhabi warriors acted on Wahhabism's claims that entire groups of people have no right to live and deserve to be slaughtered.
The Ikhwan were initially held in check by the Royal Air Force and other British military units, but ultimately it was Ibn Saud himself who had to turn against the Wahhabi warriors in order not to lose control of his nascent Saudi state.

arab polytheists were fought by the prophet not because of the nature of their polytheistic ways, but because they knew the truth and refused to adhere to it.
As for the non-arab polytheists, they are given the same status as christians and jews and are therefore treated the same, except for a few rules.

Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionism - WiccanWeb.ca   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionism refers to the religion, belliefs and practices that honour deities of the ancient Greek pantheon.
However, some Hellenic polytheists, such as the members of YSEE ([2]), object to the use of the word "Pagan" to characterize their religious practices because of the term's origin as an insult.
The term is frequently used in the United States to differentiate between syncretic and eclectic Neopagan movements and those based in the mythology and religious practice of a specific ancient polytheistic culture.

The hostility and "bitter enmity" of the polytheists and their fitna (persecution) (Quran 2:193; 8:39) of the Muslims grew so great that the unbelievers were determined to convert the Muslims back to paganism or finish them off.
It was these hardened polytheists in Arabia, who would accept nothing other than the expulsion of the Muslims or their reversion to paganism, and who repeatedly broke their treaties, that the Muslims were ordered to treat in the same way - to fight them or expel them.
The main clause of the sentence "kill the polytheists" is singled out by some Western scholars to represent the Islamic attitude to war; even some Muslims take this view and allege that this verse abrogated other verses on war.

The Prophet wanted to impress upon the polytheists and Jews of Madinah as well as the bedouins in its vicinity, that the Muslims had smashed their old fears, and had been too strong to be attacked with impunity.
The polytheists, on their part, exploited this golden opportunity to calumniate the Muslims and accuse them of violating what is Divinely inviolable.
The event of that skirmish with the polytheists dealt a heavy blow to the pride of Quraish and created a sort of horrible restlessness amongst them.

On the other hand, Muhammad waged war on polytheists, and Muslims believe that these polytheists were also too far gone morally—a questionable belief as seen in point no. two, but let us assume it only for the sake of argument.

 Introduction to Gnosis #28
By acknowledging unseen forces and higher power(s), both monotheists and polytheists seem to at least acknowledge that there is a spiritual quest to take part in, that there is more to life than meets the eye.
Even the goddess Gaia, who has reemerged as a symbol of the planetary ecosystem and is not to be trifled with, begins to shrink when looked at from the vantage point of the universe's millions of planets, stars, and solar systems.
The second explanation, considerably less felicitous, is to see the gods of the polytheists as lesser beings in the monotheistic cosmology, such as angels or demons, who are mistaken for deities by the credulous or confused.

Those who disbelieve among the people of the earlier revelations and the polytheists could have never departed (from their erring ways) until there had come to them the Clear Proof: A Messenger from Allah reciting purified pages, containing books of high value and importance.
The second fact is that religious discord and conflict among the people of the earlier revelations did not arise out of their ignorance of, or from any obscurity or ambiguity in, their religion.
They were not to turn away from this disbelief into which they had sunk except by means of this new message and at the hands of a messenger who would himself be a clear proof, distinctive and specific.

Are Christians 'Mushrik' (Polytheists) or 'Kaafirs' (Rejecters)?
Yet they ascribe to a belief, which in the eyes of the Muslims and according to the Qur’an is a polytheistic belief.
Christians, according to the Qur’an, would have been called “Mushrik” had they believed that ascribing a son to God is a polytheistic belief and would still have held that belief.
We may say that Christians ascribe to polytheistic beliefs but should not call them polytheists, as the Qur’an has not called them polytheists.

Polytheism - SkepticWiki   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Some polytheists distinguish between “strong” and “weak” polytheism, with a “weak” polytheist believing that the gods are separate aspects of one God.
Polytheists find religious syncretism easy: that is, they find it easy to accept the existence of the gods of other polytheists and to identify them with their own pantheon: so, for example, Thor could be identified with Jove as a lightning god, and Odin with Mercury as a god of wisdom.
They worship as their divinity, Mercury in particular, and have many images of him, and regard him as the inventor of all arts, they consider him the guide of their journeys and marches, and believe him to have great influence over the acquisition of gain and mercantile transactions.

 American Thinker: Muhammad's wars v. God's wars
This means, again, that if he can convert some of the Arab polytheists to his monotheism, then they were not as degenerate and far gone as the targeted Canaanites were.
After all, historically speaking, Christ appeared 600 years before Muhammad, and the Arab churches had some influence in Arabia (but not enough, apparently), so the ground of their hearts was broken up, so to speak, ready for Muhammad to plant the seeds of his own brand of monotheism.
Because the Jews of Medina held to the Torah and were taught by Rabbis, they were not as degenerate as the polytheists, whatever Muhammad says to the contrary in the Quran, calling them 'apes' and 'pigs' (Quran 2:65; 5:60), believing that they were not as righteous has he.

However, the squad of archers, stationed on the hill to provide protection against any rear-guard attack by the polytheists, deserted their positions, violating the express orders of the Prophet (Pbuh) in order to have a share of the loot.
That enabled the polytheists to launch an attack which resulted in the defeat for the Muslim army.
The defeat shook many of the Muslims who could not understand how Allah would allow people who associate partners with Him to triumph over the believers who followed the Prophet and were firm in their belief in the oneness of Allah.

Many ancient polytheists also believed in many irreducible 'Great Gods' in addition to 'lesser Gods' (and other divinities, spirits, etc.) which may be seen as avatars/emanations/other incarnations of the Great Gods.
There is nothing Soft Polytheist by recognizing a god who might have been in disguise by that disguised name(Odin and Loki's various disguises come to mind) as the same god who was not disguised.
Hard polytheists start lighting the torches as soon as you suggest multiple deities (beyond a threshold that varies per polytheist) are one.

Can we even Determine who the Polytheists are?
Even if it is accepted that polytheists alone are not to be allowed to come in the vicinity of the Ka'bah, the argument remains unanswered.
This entails that those who due to any misunderstanding indulge in Shirk or do not accept that they are polytheists and present some kind of interpretation and explanation to their involvement in polytheism as some of the Hindu sects and Christians do cannot be called Mushrik.
Therefore we see that though the Holy Qur'an says that some of Jews and Christians were involved in polytheistic beliefs yet it did not subject them to the punishment prescribed for the polytheists who had rejected the Messenger of Allah.

 Dialogue with the Polytheists
It was so ingrained in their hearts and minds that they considered it to be an absolute truth and consequently they were dismissive of anything that might run contrary to that established belief, without any discussion or thought.
On the other hand, the Islamic message symbolized a great challenge to the polytheistic mentality, as it was the creed on whose rock polytheism would break up, as would all norms or conduct and customs based on it, even the inner human feelings, which encapsulated man's relations with others and with God.
Besides, the method espoused by this holy verse is in line with the tendency of providing the polytheists with answers to what they argue of their belief in the context of debate.
