The twin volcanos are known as Payachatas ("two brothers" in Aymara).
Pomerape is 6222m and Parinacota is 6348m (20827ft).

The younger Volcan Parinacora (P) lies to the south while the older Pomerape is to the north.
Hummocky topography immediately to the west of Parincota is the remnant of the debris flow (DF), and Lake Chungara to the south is largest of the lakes that developed due to the dam created by this material.
Morro Caquena is the large lava to the northwest of Pomerape.

The northern volcano Pomerape is nice to walk around, the southern volcano Parinacota is nice to climb.
We more or less had to go around the northern volcano, Pomerape, to reach the pass between the two volcanoes from where we wanted to do our 'summit attempt'.
It is not a good idea to take a shortcut by staying close to Pomerape, because in that way you have to climb and descent all the lava ribs.

Pomerape is a slightly more tricky ascent, about alpine PD, and more suitable for those with some previous alpine or winter climbing experience
We'll climb the mountain by the north or northeast flank (depending on snow conditions), crossing an extensive lava desert of pumice with relics of old lava flows to a high camp at 5400m, then climbing to the summit in one long day.
It will probably be possible to give adequate instruction for the ascent of Pomerape during the course of the expedition, but this can depend on how quickly you learn new skills.
