Pompeiopolis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The borders of Pompeiopolis reach the Küre mountains to the north, Ilgaz mountains to the south, Halys river to the east and Pınarbaşı valley to the west.
Pompeiopolis is said to have been established together with Andrapa-Neapolis by the Roman general and politician Pompey (Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus) in the year 64 BC in the double province of Bithynia - Pontus.
It is believed that Pompeiopolis was shortly deserted in late 6th or early 7th centuries AD due to the attacks of Persian or Arab tribes, and with the rearrangements of the Byzantine emperor Justinian.

 Pompeiopolis
Gelzer, 535) ranks it as an autocephalous archdiocese, which title it probably received when Justinian (Novellæ, xxix) reorganized the province of Paphlagonia.
In the eleventh century Pompeiopolis became a metropolitan see (Parthey, "Hieroclis Synecdemus", 97) and it was still such in the fourteenth century (Gelzer, "Ungedruckte-Texte der Notitiæ episcopatuum", 608).
Pompeiopolis is now called Tach-Keupru (bridge of stone), because of an ancient bridge over the Tatai-Tchai or Gueul-Irmak, the ancient Ammias, and is in the sandjak and vilayet of Kastamouni twenty-five miles north-east of that town.
