Examples of the S values and corresponding molecular weights are the molecular weight of serum albumin of 69,000 with an S of 4.6, and a molecular weight of a monoclonal immunoglobulin G was determined to be 178,000 and its S was determined as 7.08.
Ponceau S The sensitivities of detection with two of these dyes are: Coomassie Blue detects as little as 0.1 micrograms protein (about 2 picomoles) and the silver stain detects even less, 0.02 micrograms protein.
In the clinical chemistry laboratory Ponceau S is used to stain blood serum proteins separated on agarose or cellulose acetate media.

Ponceau S - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ponceau S, Acid Red 112, or C.I. is a sodium salt of a diazo dye that may be used to prepare a stain for rapid reversible detection of protein bands on nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes (Western blotting), as well as on cellulose acetate membranes.
A Ponceau S stain is easily reversed with water washes, facilitating subsequent immunological detection.
Common stain formulations include 0.1% (w/v) Ponceau S in 5% acetic acid or 2% (w/v) Ponceau S in 30% TCA and 30% sulfosalicylic acid.

Western blot - Pounceau S staining problem - BioForum
I've had problems with ponceau stainings of PVDF and instead of the standard Sigma (0.1% ponceau, 5% acetic acid), i made my own ponceau as 0.2% ponceau in 3% TCA, and that worked.
Unfortunately, the Ponceau lost and got tipped down the sink as I thought it had gone off (it does go off and there was no open or receipt date).
Ponceau stain requires low pH to work, hence the glacial acetic acid or TCA used to prepare it.

In this volume, the focus is on the authors who competed for the prize of 1835, the only year in which the theme of the contest was restricted to Amerindian (particularly Delaware) linguistics.
The two competitors, Peter S. Du Ponceau and Constantine S. Rafinesque, both lived in the United States, but were of French and Swiss extraction and able to write their essays in French.
Then follows a reprint with annotations of Du Ponceau's famous “Mémoire sur le système grammatical des langues de quelques nations indiennes de l'Amérique du Nord,” published in 1838 and based upon his prizewinning 1835 Volney manuscript which is no longer extant.
