Daniel was a weaver who lived in a cottage next to Goppa chapel in Pontarddulais and wrote poetry, and his happy-go-lucky disposition had not at first enamoured him to her parents.
Two police officers went with a carriage to Pontarddulais next day to arrest Daniel Lewis, and, ever the prankster, he insisted that by law the carriage had to be brought to his door by Goppa chapel, so it was taken down the narrow lane with great difficulty.
Before the Pontarddulais incident, a barrister and an expert in turnpike law had been sent to Wales, and they had collected sufficient evidence during August to persuade the government that a full public enquiry was necessary.

The community of Pontarddulais could switch its allegiance from Swansea to Carmarthenshire council's control if a boundary change plan is successful.
The motion before community council members will be whether they agree that Pontarddulais should remain part of Swansea - or should moves be made to find out whether the area should become part of Carmarthenshire.
Swansea city and county councillor Gareth Williams, who is also a community councillor in Pontarddulais, said he thought the switch should not happen.

Only the first of the children born there was christened in church, and the others were probably christened at Goppa Calvinistic Methodist chapel in Pontarddulais, where JOHN was listed as one of the four deacons in 1857 in the book written in Welsh to celebrate its bicentenary in 1973.
In 1891 JOHN was living not far away as a steam engine maker, but DAVID had moved to Pontarddulais, where he was an engineer in the tinworks, and he had 6 children, all of whom were Welsh-speaking according to the census of that year.
Their daughter ANNE married JOSHUA WILLIAMS, a grocer of Pontarddulais, but by 1901 she was running the shop as a widow, ‘selling a wide variety of goods from print aprons to oil, all of the best quality’.

The aims and ideals of the movement were discussed and explained and at a later meeting a committee and officers were balloted for.
In 1962 one of the most important events, was the decision to change the venue of the W.I. meetings from the Junior School to the hall of the Mechanics Institute.
