Also as of the May 21st Amtrak timetable, the northbound Ann Rutledge, which operated between Kansas City, Missouri, and Chicago, was rerouted to the old Santa Fe well north of Pontiac.
Beyond Dwight, the last station stop before Joliet, the Chicago-bound Ann Rutledge left the old Alton Route on a spur up to Coal City where it joined the former route of the Southwest Chief.
The Union Pacific wanted to avoid having to negotiate a difficult meet between the Ann Rutledge and the new daily southbound Texas Eagle.
