  Pontic
Pontic refers to a replacement, artificial tooth or teeth that are mounted on a fixed or removal dental appliance.
One of the main components of a dental bridge, the pontic is attached to two surrounding abutments (dental crowns) to create a seamless impression of a complete set of healthy teeth.
Pontics and their attachments provides support for facial muscles, improves oral functions such as speech and chewing ability, and enhances one's facial appearance and smile.

 The Pontic Alps
The typical Pontic village is composed of houses scattered over a valley with only a church to mark its center, whereas the plateau village is a small nucleated huddle of houses, not much different from the settlements of five thousand years earlier.
The second type of climate is to be found on the southern slopes of the Pontic chain; this is the cool, temperate continental climate that is typical of the Anatolian plateau as a whole.
The Pontic coastline provides very few natural harbors, with the notable exception of that of the city of Sinope, where the peninsula provides ideal protection against weather; it is a tribute to the wisdom of the Milesians that they founded there their first Black Sea colony.

Bridge bar assembly 30 is used in a method for forming a pontic (pontics) or false tooth (teeth) between a first tooth and a second tooth posteriorly positioned with respect to the first tooth, said pontic or pontics resting lightly on the gum surface therebetween.
In the first embodiment of the present invention, a pontic (or pontics) 52 is formed in situ in an edentulous space defined between a first anterior tooth 54 (or two anterior teeth) and a second tooth 56 posteriorly positioned with respect to first tooth 54 and resting lightly on the gum surface 58 therebetween.
Pontic base 44 is screw-threaded up into the boss 32 so that the base position rests lightly on the gum surface in the edentulous space between first and second teeth 54 and 56, while the lower surface 42 of the bridge bar rests on the occlusal floor of the grooves in the teeth.

Pontic Music and Dance presented in Culture section
The oldest known Pontic dance is probably the “serra” or “pyrrikheos”, a pyrrhic dance that is described by Xenophon in the 4th century B.C. A mens’ war dance, it is sometimes danced with knives or short swords similar to the Caucasian kinjal.
Pontic music - with ancient rhythms and sung in Pontic Greek (a mixture of Ancient and Byzantine Greek, Ottoman Turkish, as well as some Persian and Caucasian words) - has influenced and been influenced by other cultures of the area.
As well several of the rhythms and melodies of other Pontic songs and dances are found in Afghanistan (especially the North) and Uzbekistan and Central Asia in general.

After Thea Halo had visited her Pontic Greek mother's and Assyrian father's lands, she embarked on another pilgrimage, that of the mind and the soul, to discover and help preserve a history much forgotten and a genocide barely remembered.
I dedicate this interview to the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Assyrians and Pontic Greeks that perished in Turkey almost a century ago, just about the same time that a million and a half Armenians were marching to their deaths.
She said, the Pontic Greeks lived in Asia Minor for 3 thousand years and I go to school and no one in Holland knows we ever existed.

In recent years, the ovate pontic style has gained popularity due to the ability of the clinician and laboratory to fabricate a restoration that achieves the all important "natural" look.
Another benefit of the ovate pontic is that it is easily cleaned since the entire surface of the pontic is convex allowing a patient to easily pass floss over the entire tissue surface.
To properly define the ovate pontic it is best to add some flowable composite to the pontic site at this time.

Although Pontic Greeks are found throughout most of mainland Greece today there is a high concentration of them in Macedonia where many of them were originally settled upon arrival from their Asia Minor homeland.
Kotsari is one of the Pontic dances with several variations, Sometimes these variations are called out by the dancer at the right end of the line; other times it is a matter of individual preference.
Perhaps this has come about as a result of some of the Pontic lyra players learning to play a few Cretan dance songs, It is interesting to see the dances of Crete being performed in strictly Pontic style, for it is rare to find a dancer who can change from one style to the other.

Shape the pontic, then cut a large area out of its lingual side so that the entire cutout is beveled, creating an undercut at all edges of the cutout.
This also makes it easier to place the pontic, since there is a loop of wire to hold onto while adjusting the pontic’s position and waxing it into place on the model.
Now the pontic will have a large area of undercut as well as a loop of wire locked onto the pontic to help hold it to the appliance.

The kemenche and tulum are prevalent in the Eastern regions around Trabzon, Of, Surmene and Giresun while Western Pontos especially Ak Dag Maden is stylistically closer to local Turkish music with the Halay being common.

After healing, a Eubank bridge using an “E” pontic was planned, along with porcelain veneers on teeth ##8 and 9; and a porcelain crown on tooth #10.
The tissue continued to blanch for a minute or two after the ridge was socketed; this ensured lateral pressure by the pontic to push the adjacent papilla incisally.
The “Eubank” bridge with an “E” pontic is a conservative technique that allows for beautiful esthetics and functional replacement of an anterior tooth (Figs 13 & 14).

Dental Economics - Ovate pontic receptor sites
The ovate pontic receptor site is a depression or socket created in the soft tissue that allows the cervical aspect of the pontic to emerge from it, making it appear to emerge from the alveolar ridge.
Since the pontic occupies the same space that the original tooth did, the pontic’s emergence profile appears natural, especially when compared to a modified ridge lap pontic.
Ensure that you leave a minimum of 2 mm of space between the tissue side of the pontic and the crestal bone to allow the soft tissue to fill this space.
