  Pooh of Walden Pond
Pooh is in fact a Transcendentalist, and a perfect model for children and adults that want a happy, peaceful life in harmony with both themselves and nature, free of strife and materialistic worries.
Pooh is content as long as he visits with his friends regularly and has a "smackeral of something" around eleven o'clock each day, and hums a "new hum" every so often.
Pooh and Piglet decide to celebrate the beauty of living and of friendship and go to wish Rabbit, "whose life was made up of Important Things" (Milne Corner 30), a happy Thursday, but Rabbit is disappointed because he feels that they have come with no other reason than just wanting to visit with him.

Pooh was walking round and round in a circle, thinking of something else, and when Piglet called to him, he just went on walking.
Pooh was also well aware that when cleansing oneself after going to the toilet, one should not use the right hand but the left.
A clue to Pooh’s religion is also found on this map — note that in the small drawing on the left of the page, he is facing the Sacred House in the East.

Pooh Corner: A HISTORY OF WINNIE-THE-POOH   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
The Pooh places are now so known and loved that when, in the late 1970s, it became obvious that 'Poohsticks Bridge' was urgently in need of repair, the issue was considered of sufficient national importance to be announced on the BBC 9 o'clock news.
The only connection to the history of Pooh in Christopher Milne's house was an enlargement of this photograph in a wood frame lovingly carved by him hanging at the top of the stairs of his home in Devon.
Nancy stayed in her usual elegant suite at the Savoy Hotel in the Strand, while Pooh was made as comfortable as possible in the giant steel hotel safe, until he was released for some exciting expotitions and to be photographed with us outside the grand entrance of the Savoy.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | New-look Pooh 'has girl friend'
Pooh is being re-branded as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations.
But that is unlikely to please Pooh purists, who can point out that the original stories were written specifically for Milne's son, Christopher Robin Milne.
Casting a shadow over Pooh's 80th anniversary are continuing court battles over the rights to the franchise.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Winnie the Pooh
Winnie-the-Pooh and its 1928 sequel, The House at Pooh Corner, were illustrated by Ernest H. Shepard, whose contribution to the Pooh oeuvre was considered as important to the work as that of artist W.W. Denslow to the Wizard of Oz, or John Tenniel to Alice in Wonderland.
The look he gave Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood contributed greatly to the effect the books had on the English-speaking world — which was to capture the hearts of generations.
It made a reasonable hit with audiences, but was criticized for not being true to the Pooh look and feel — especially in replacing Pooh's friend Piglet with a Gopher (voiced by Howard Morris (Atom Ant)), and giving everyone an American accent.

BBC NEWS | Magazine | The man who hated Pooh
The biggest regret in EH Shepard's life was agreeing to illustrate Winnie the Pooh for AA Milne, as it resulted in the bulk of his work, even during his lifetime, being completely overshadowed.
Your story about the Winnie the Pooh written by AA Milne and drawn by EH Shepherd was mistakenly illustrated by a picture of a quite different bear who happens to have the same name, but is a Disney creation.
EH Shepard's renderings of Pooh and friends are the ones I always prefer to have in mind.

Winnie the Pooh - History of Pooh
The name Pooh originally belonged to a swan, as can be seen in the introduction of Milne's 'When We Were Very Young'.
The characters, Rabbit and Owl, were based on animals that lived, like the swan Pooh, in the surrounding area of Milne's country home, Cotchford Farm in Ashdown Forest, Sussex.
In 1993, the Walt Disney Company acknowledged that Pooh Bear is second only to Mickey Mouse in their portfolio of the most-loved and trusted characters known to millions of people all over the world.
