		Pools of Darkness is the fourth in a four-part series of Forgotten Realms Dungeons and Dragons Gold Box adventure computer games, published by Strategic Simulations, Inc..
		Travelling through the pools can cause many types of items the characters are holding to be permanently destroyed and lost.
		Pools of Darkness differed from its predecessors in a number of ways.

	Vampire: The Masquerade
		The darkness obscures light and even sound; most opponents trapped within are completely blind, and even characters with Gleam of Red Eyes or Heightened Senses suffer penalties of three dice to their Pools.
		In this form, the vampire may see in pitch darkness, slither through the tiniest of cracks, and is immune to physical harm (although she may not attack physically either).

		Pools of Radiance and Pools of Darkness are my most favorite of the series.
		Pool of Radiance because it was a great beginning to a solid RPG system, and Pools of Darkness because it gives you a chance to meet famous NPCs from ADandD world, marvel at the non-linear storyline, and develop your heroes to very high levels.

		The musical approach is refreshing in the sense that their music presents a hybrid of symphonic progressive metal such as Dream Theater which is updated with the 90s hard-edged metal/alternative music such as Tool, Korn and God Lives Underwater.
		Chiaroscuro was a name that I threw out and which wasn't initially met with a lot of enthusiasm, but after a few go-rounds we went back to our list and went "Hey, this really describes us!" People have a hell of a time pronouncing it, much less remembering it, but we're perversely fond of it.
		The order of the songs on "Brilliant Pools of Darkness" seems to me to be historic in the sense that the older songs are the first ones and the songs are newer towards the end of the CD.

	Review of the game Pools of Darkness
		The epic starting with Pool of Radiance, continuing through Curse of the Azure Bonds and Secret of the Silver Blades, finally got a worthy final.
		The graphics are majorly improved, as are a few other features we all know and love from the gold box games: now your character name is highlighted when he's ready to level, etc. Also, the story is completely non-linear, very intriguing and challenging.
		If you've enjoyed the whole story arc starting at Pool of Radiance, you'll simply LOVE Pools of Darkness - the best of the lot.

		Personally I am not keen on 11 minute instrumentals at all, but Aghora's "Jivatma" is one hell of an instrumental feast, starting in dark ambient style and developing into a groovy, jazzy, well-though out improvization.
		Complementarily, keyboards and sequencers are used along in a quite original and wise way, achieving its impact and representing an indelible stylistic characteristic and driving force of the album.
		A lot of buzz was generated about this album on the internet, but dark power metal presented here doesn't look more extraordinary or better than done by others (for example, Iced Earth or Stigmata IV).
