MOTO = Masters of the Obvious, a band since the 80's who consistently creates power pop walls of sound that remind me for some reason of Robert Pollard of guided by voices if he made punk rock.
Before the eighties revival Shelby introduced the analog synth back into the mid 90's through the Clears and his own music, being a retro-pioneer, and here he created a great album that will appeal to a Daniel Johnston.

Bands like The Jam, Purple Hearts, Secret Affair, The Lambrettas, and countless others re-ignited the R&B influenced, energetic pop sound that had been missing in punk, yet still containing the intensity and emotion of the UK punk movement.
On listening to this surprisingly powerful trio first thought is that this is as good, and in some cases better than anything around during the '79 Mod Revival.
With a sound reminiscent of The Jam at their peak, other reference points being The Buzzcocks and The Chords, this power pop package is quite simply awesome full of power pop at its very best.

This cultural history of a single rock tune is an exercise in modern legend-making that also tells 'the story of rock 'n' roll in a nutshell.' For Marsh, the official investigation of the allegedly obscene lyrics in 'Louie, Louie' prefigures current efforts to censor pop music.
Clearly garage rock is this year's retro fad, like lounge music and the swing revival before it.

 [the-ring] Conservative Punk Rock!
Punk was ready for a revival, and it provides a welcome change in pace from electronica/hip hop/crap pop/etc. It also shows that a lot of cultural trends are working like religion nowadays, in which people tend to take bits and pieces of whatever they like and ignore the parts they dislike.
I think the punk element is more of a correlation than a cause.

 Freeway Jam
Power Pop was an energetic, melodic, uptempo form of rock that enjoyed its biggest heyday in the wake of the punk/new wave era.
Renewed interest in power pop and 20/20 led to a brief revival of the band in the mid 90's; they released two more albums, but failed to drum up many sales.
Power Pop first surfaced in the early 70's and its invention is generally credited to a trio of bands that were fairly underappreciated in their own time: Badfinger (from Wales), Big Star (Memphis), and the Raspberries (Mentor, OH).

Punk was still “hot,” and the weekly press was equally hot to begin acknowledging the sometimes odd, occasionally incomprehensible, but undeniably vital new talent that was bubbling up in places other than the capital.
Magazine had already been signed to Virgin Records, a benefit of Devotos growing underground reputation, the medias as yet unburnt fascination with all things punk, and their early live shows.
Despite their influence on songwriters as disparate as Thom Yorke and Momus, Devoto’s songs are largely overlooked in surveys of turn of the decade rock and pop.

Matthew Sweet, MP3 Music Download at eMusic
After spending the '80s as an unappreciated jangle pop guitarist with Oh-OK and Lloyd Cole, as well as a solo artist, Matthew Sweet emerged in 1991 as the leading figure of the American power pop revival.
Beginning with 1997's Blue Sky on Mars, Sweet settled into cult status, and while he wasn't enjoying the success of his previous records, most power pop records of the latter half of the '90s were indebted to Girlfriend.
Like his British counterparts Teenage Fanclub, Sweet adhered to traditional songcraft, yet subverted the form by adding noisy post-punk guitar and flourishes of country-rock, resulting in an amalgam of the Beatles, Big Star, R.E.M., and Neil Young.

Neo-punk, punk-revival, or whatever they are calling crap like MxPx these days is actually just pop with punk influences and is diametrically opposed to everything punk is. Crashdog, however, are old school punk.
I especially can appreciate bands that were punk when punk wasn't the "in" thing like it is the late 90's and 2000.
My only real reason for owing this, however, is the song "Bloody Lane" which is a bizarre mix of punk with bagpipes.

To Greenwald, the terms signify a reaction to commercial pop and classic rock that is distinct from the punk and New Wave styles that came about on the heels of those earlier trends.
Greenwald, whose band encompasses the more melodic and rootsy elements of alt-rock, looks at the current situation on the pop charts as part of a long-standing tension between commercial and non-commercial forces.

Treephort: Reviews, Discography, Audio Clips, and more Music.com
The members of Treephort like to describe their sound as "nerdcore" (as opposed to hardcore, metalcore, grindcore or emocore), which is a way of saying that their melodic but forceful and hard-driving style of punk-pop is quite different from much of the punk-pop that was popular in the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
Nor is Treephort a punk revival band--that is, a band that was formed in the ‘90s or 2000s but tries to emulate the old school punk pioneers of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s.
But not all of Treephort's influences come from hardcore punk; lead singer Lee Satterfield has also cited Camper van Beethoven and Oingo Boingo as influences.
