After hearing about how I saw the pope just by chance recently (see my trip report), some friends and family are asking if they can go to Rome too to see the pope.
I was at the Pope's first audience back at St. Peter's in September (he had been at his summer home) and we made no reservations, showed no tickets, just got there at 8 AM I think and waited in line.
In March, 2003 my husband, son and I went to Rome and I followed this procedure for the weekly auditorium audience- the tickets were confirmed in advance and I picked them up when we got to the Vatican.
