Rastafari movement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The doctrines of Rastafari depart radically from the norms of the conventional modern western mind, a trait of the movement deliberately encouraged by Rastas themselves.
The wearing of dreadlocks is very closely associated with the movement, though not universal among (or exclusive to) its adherents.
As important and connected with the movement as the wearing of dreadlocks is, it is not deemed necessary for, or equivalent to, true faith.

Is a revolution possible in the U.S.?
The revolution ended in the establishment of a radically new system of representative government and probably the widest democracy known anywhere in the world to that point.
The caricature of revolution passed off by many historians is of a small group of armed fanatics seizing control of the government and running it to enrich themselves.
Revolution is not only possible in the United States, but it’s absolutely necessary and urgently needed to put an end to poverty, war and oppression--and create a new society dedicated to justice and freedom.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Oxford Movement (1833-1845)
The movement, therefore, started, not on Roman ground, but in a panic provoked by the alliance of O Connell with the Whigs, of Dissenters with Benthamites, intent on destroying all religious establishments.
It was given in 1834 and 1835 by the accession to the movement of E.B. Pusey, Canon of Christ Church and Hebrew professor.
Surveying the movement as a whole we perceive that it was part of the general Christian uprising which the French Revolution called forth.

 Chapter 4 Page 1
Concentrated in the eastern part of the city, near the Bastille and in the neighborhood of Saint-Antoine, artisans and laborers were the industrial backbone of the capital.
They were fairly well educated and well-off but also depended upon many with middle-class backgrounds—the journalists and lawyers—who most aggressively took up the political cause of "the people." Exactly what percentage of the entire working population took up politics as well as which elements of the populace predominated remain the focus of debate.
The atmosphere in mid-July had already grown quite tense, as the Estates-General—meeting in Versailles twenty miles away—had been thwarted in a number of its initiatives by the King, and rumors circulating in the capital suggested that royal troops were preparing to disband the assembly.

 Revolution and counterrevolution
While the question of whether or not this was a coup or a revolution is being discussed in bourgeois and petty bourgeois intellectual circles, the revolutionary impact of the April Revolution had a share, for example, in the revolution in Iran.
Those who call it a coup put forward such views as that the revolution was effected through an uprising in the army, that a section of the counterrevolutionary muslim guerrillas had found a base among the peasantry, and that the revolution was announced to the country over the radio.
To understand revolution as something in which the absolute majority of the people, organised in regular armies, strikes as one, would be nothing but the other side of a parliamentarist understanding, replacing the number of votes by a head count.

POPULAR RELIGION AND THE REVOLUTION IN THE MIDDLE ATLANTIC PORTS: THE RISE OF THE METHODISTS, 1770-1800 (AMERICAN ...
The rapid growth of the Methodist movement in revolutionary America is a striking historical phenomenon.
This dissertation finds that the Methodist movement began as a missionary religion that sought to convert the unchurched and counteract the increasing influence of commerce and commercial mores in English and colonial society in general, and the Middle Atlantic ports and their hinterlands in particular.
An examination of these adherents' conversion to evangelicalism and subsequent disputes between the port societies' preachers and people reveals the social tensions underlying the emergence of the Second Great Awakening, and some of the ways in which the republican culture of revolutionary America was transformed into the religious culture of ante-bellum America.

This major interpretation of the Revolution of 1848-1849 in Germany stresses its character as a mass political phenomenon.
Building skillfully on the theme of the interaction of self-conscious radicalism and spontaneous popular movements, Jonathan Sperber analyzes the social and religious antagonisms of pre-1848 German society and shows how they were politicized by the democratic political opposition.

Using years' worth of research data, and adhering to an unwavering biblical perspective, Barna predicts how this revolution will impact the organized church, how Christ's body of believers should react, and how individuals who are considering leaving (or those who have already left) can respond.
While some may find the content of this book uncomfortable or even controversial, Barna speaks with grace but also fervor and excitement, presenting a strong, biblically-sound argument for what he has observed transpiring over the last two decades and encourages the reader to make their own educated observations.
It also forces me to grapple with biblical ecclesiology and to be sure that what I hold as hard and fast biblical principles of "church life" are not simply cultural concessions on my part or personal preferences.

With these principles in mind, right after the Russian Revolution, Lenin argued that the success of socialism in Russia depended on the victory of socialist revolutions in other countries (most notably the German Revolution.) However, all the socialist revolutions that flared up across Europe in the years 1918-1922 were crushed.
Critics argue that the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Prague spring, and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution were imperialistic wars where military force crushed popular uprisings against the Communist system.
