See a short video clip of Brian talking about science, drop Brian an e-mail, find out a bit about him in his biography, see details of events at which Brian will be speaking, and read an interview with Brian.
Science has always fascinated me. There is a sense of wonder about the more amazing aspects of science that really isn't duplicated in any other subject.
Of the other popular science authors, I'm particularly fond of James Gleick, and Simon Singh is always good value for money, but again I read fairly widely in non-fiction.

The Greatest Popular Science Book! | Cosmic Variance
The best popular science book of all, though (and must surely be one of the earliest) is, I think, J.E. Gordon’s ‘The New Science of Strong Materials (or why we don’t fall through the floor)’.
It was a cutting-edge synthesis of the gene-centered approach by a at-the-time active zoologist, who both synthesized the recent work of Hamilton, Williams, Trivers etc. and advanced it, as well as made it persuasive with extraordinarily rigorous and lively prose, plus he introduced the whole theory of memes as a kind of afterthought.
This is not to say that it is not a good book but a popular science book should be readable by people who have not studied math on a university level.

Using the examples of stem cell research and intelligent design, I emphasized the difference between the traditional popular science model of communication and an alternative model based on research in political communication.
