Interview - John Porcelly (Youth of Today, Judge, Shelter)
Porcell: A lot, my wife gave birth to our beautiful son, Kana, which was the biggest news of my life.
Porcell: This is kind of a personal question, it's been asked of me a lot lately and it puts me in an awkward position because I don't want to air any of Ray's dirty laundry.
Porcell: Yep, that's coming along great too, I finished all the rhythm guitars and I did vocals for 2 songs already, so that should be finished soon also.

I didnt really know what to expect from Porcell with this ep release, but I was plesently surprised on how heavy and agressive it was.
Porcell has a lot of built up agression I think, his vocals are pissed, and fit the music well.
It was Porcell talking about the band, and hardcore, and how its what he knows and loves.

Porcell Coat of Arms, Family Crest   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The name Porcell is an occupational surname, a form of hereditary name that existed in both cultures long before the invaders arrived, but more common to the Anglo-Norman culture.
The surname Porcell is derived from the Norman-French word porcel, which in turn comes from the Latin word porcus, which means pig.
Occupational names such as Porcell frequently were derived from the principal object associated with the activity of the original bearer, such as tools or products.

Judge MP3 Downloads - Judge Music Downloads - Judge Music Videos
Originally released by Porcell's Schism label (and later re-issued on Revelation), the single was a smash success in the underground, with its no-holds-barred metallic hardcore approach and militant lyrics influencing an entire generation of hardcore bands.
The original sessions for Judge's debut album, with Porcell again playing both bass and guitar, were aborted, though they later resurfaced as the ultra-rare Chun King Can Suck It album, named for the studio where it was created.
Porcell went on to briefly join Gorilla Biscuits after finishing his tenure with Youth of Today.

It was then that Shelter vocalist Ray Cappo, and guitarist Porcell, first left the suburbs to travel to the city to become a part of the existing punk revolution.
Despite their many accomplishments, however, Cappo and Porcell realized they remained dissatisfied with their lot in life.
Porcell remained in the United States, touring with "Gorilla Biscuits" and "Judge." Two years later, the paths of Cappo and Porcell crossed once again, and "Shelter" was born.

Peter: I met Porcell during the SHELTER tours in 2000 when I toured with them as a roadie.
After touring together for three months it was natural to keep in touch, and when we recorded a demo in 2002, I sent it over to him.
Porcell was the first one I sent the stuff to and after hearing it he got right back to me and asked us to record a couple of more songs to do a full-length.

When Al Brown (Side By Side, Gorilla Biscuits) and Porcell (Youth Of Today, Judge) wanted to promote their fanzine, Schism, they came up with the perfect idea - give away a free 7" with their upcoming issue.
Since no bands around NYC had any unreleased material at the time, Al and Porcell enlisted their friends / bandmates Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits) and Sammy Siegler (Side By Side, Youth of Today, Judge) to come up with a project band.
After 3 days and 2 practices, the youth crew headed into Don Fury studios and recorded an EP aptly entitled "Project X." Only 500 were pressed, with Xeroxed covers and blank labels, many of which had handwritten messages on them.

 Splendid E-zine reviews: Shelter
Former Youth of Today kingpins Ray and Porcell are certainly the primary progenitors of this genre, which supports straightedge living, vegetarianism, a sober consciousness and respect for each other.
When 20 Summers Pass, the band's fifth full length, continues the messages of Krishnacore, with the unusual backing of hardcore punk rock as its primary vehicle of expression.
Ray and Porcell have done their time in the music scene, and their latest release clearly shows that this duo can pack a spiritual punch while creating tunes that just as enjoyable to staunch fans and followers as they are to casual hardcore listeners.
