		Porno for Pyros was a US musical group and was Perry Farrell's and Stephen Perkins' next project after their former band Jane's Addiction.
		Prior to releasing their eponymous first album, Porno for Pyros (named after the orgy of destruction that was the Los Angeles/Rodney King riots) embarked on a nation-wide tour to support their new band.
		By the time their debut album was released in 1993, the anticipation surrounding the project was enough to briefly drive the album to the #1 position on the Billboard top 20 list.

		Really, they only had two full length studio albums out to go along with a (probably only partial) live record and rarities, new songs and live tracks collection, but yet, their catalog is one of the most consistent I've ever come across.
		Porno For Pyros did have their share of excellent songs to prevent their albums from becoming completely disappointing, and the more mature, mellow approach does work sometimes, but they are ultimately more of a mildly enjoyable footnote in the career of Perry Farrell than a significant independent unit.
		Although the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to these highlights in the middle of side one, the only time it really sags at all is in the annoyingly repetitive and droning ballad "Thick Of It All", which really doesn't amount to anything in terms of atmosphere and melody.

		Luckily the album wraps up with “Hypersonic”, a 3 and a half minute race that leaves your heart pumping all the while.

		I have fond memories of this album in the Summer of 1989 when it was still relatively new, fearing it might represent a sell-out, then hearing it all, and guessing not.
		As for the Porno for Pyros, it is one of those CDs that I have grown to like simply because it is all I can ever find worth listening to in the CD collections of my hippie friends.

		On the whole, this album mines the same guitar based, rough-hewn indie sound as their previous albums, and reaches its peak with slower, gentler, more melodic numbers like "Storm vibrations" and with the vaguely Who-like "Eureka signs" (there is a nod to the Who in another song title - "The ids are alright").
		A live album is music in the wrong context; music that is intended for recording is that done in the studio.
		It's not necessarily an album that will get you up and dancing, but it is still in the running for my favourite local album of the year.
