From here we headed back up north hoping for some warmer weather, stopping along the way to climb Castle Rock in the Porongurup National park.
Beyond Perth our first main stop of interest was Kalbarri, a quiet seaside town near the national park, which has some spectacular river gorges with good walking trails.
On day trip we drove to Sovereign Hill, an old goldmining town/museum and the next day to the Great Ocean Road, which is famous for scenic coastline with cliffs, surf beaches national parks and sea cliff features and shipwrecks.

On Nancy's Peak Loop in Porongurup National Park, Western Australia, we explored this impressively tall karri tree forest (a type of eucalyptus).
Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 as the world's first national park, and now it is now part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem which extends across parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, and is now recognized as an International Biosphere Preserve, a World Heritage Site.
Lake Ann is a great side trip from the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail at Rainy Pass, Washington.
