Porsche (Porsche AG), is a German manufacturer of sports cars, founded in 1931 by Ferry Porsche, the son of Ferdinand Porsche, the engineer who created the first Volkswagen.
Porsche has a reputation for producing high-end sports vehicles that, despite their high performance, are reliable and tractable enough to be used for daily driving, and of high manufacturing quality and durability.

Porsche 906 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Porsche 906 or Carrera 6 was a street-legal racing car from Porsche; 65 were produced from 1966.
A successor to the Porsche 904, and designed under Ferdinand Piech's new regime at Porsche RandD, the 906 replaced the boxed steel structure of the 904 which used the fiberglass body for extra structural strength with a tubular frame and unstressed fiberglass body.
Unlike previous racing Porsches, the 906's body was tested in a wind tunnel and bore a much closer resemblance to future Porsche racing cars.

The Porsche 912 is replaced by the two-seater mid-engine VW Porsche 914 available in two versions: as the 914/4 with a four-cylinder Volkswagen engine (1679 cc, 80 bhp/59 kW) and as the 914/6 with a six-cylinder Porsche power unit (1991 cc, 110 bhp/81 kW).
Porsche extends the range by introducing the 944 based on the 924 but featuring even wider wheel arches and a four-cylinder Porsche engine (2479 cc, 163 bhp/120 kW) – basically speaking half the 8-cylinder in the 928.

Porsche continued to own the car until it was sold in 1968 to Vasek Polak, a Los Angeles-based Porsche dealer active in racing.
It did not jibe with the car’s "906" features: large air scoops behind the side windows, center of the hood fuel filler, center/interior rear-hood latch, short side doors, side windows that raise/lower, etc. After proper research confirmed the correctness of the 906-011 identification, a new chassis plate was attached.
From Porsche of America, the car was sold to Briggs Cunningham, the well-known Le Mans entrant, car manufacturer, yachtsman, and all-round sportsman, who was nearing the end of his racing career in 1964.

 Porsche Racing Division
Many of the concepts that Porsche envisioned for the future was embodied in the 959, including the sequential twin-turbocharging of the 450bhp engine, which was derived from the 956/962 racing powerplant, electronically controlled variable four-wheel drive, six speed transmission, automatically adjustable ride-height and shock stiffness and zero-lift aerodynamics (all this for a car in 1985).
The Porsche 904, often considered as the first of the so-called modern Porsches, was in actuality a transition car that bridged the gap between the company’s line of historic Spyders and the lightweight, powerful specials, which in the latter half of the 1960s brought Porsche to the forefront of prototype racing.
Porsche hammered out parameters for a modified version of the 956, which would be known as the 962 when it debuted in the hands of Mario and Michael Andretti at the 1984 season-opening Daytona-24hours event.

 Ben Pon - Biography
More to the point, considering his family's intimate involvement with Volkswagens and hence with Porsche, it is not too surprising that in 1961 he competed in three races of the FIA GT Cup (two of which also counted as events in the World Sportscar Championship) in a Porsche-Abarth 356B Carrera.
The 906 he shared with Günther Huber and Peter Peter at Spa went out in a crash, and Ben also retired from the Nurburgring race in Sten Axelsson's 906 with suspension problems.
That race at Brands Hatch was actually also a round of the RAC British Sports Car Championship, in which Pon also competed at rounds at Snetterton and Silverstone, coming 4th and 5th respectively in, you guessed it, his Porsche 906.
