The 4-cylinder 912 engine turned out to be more sensitive to the design of the engine mount than the 911 engine.
According to Bruce Anderson in the 11/82 Porsche Pano, The factory uses a Locktite sealant, the same as was introduced with the 928.

May of 1998 I purchased a 1966 Porsche 912 as a Birthday gift for my wife Caroline.
The car has been repainted in it's original ivory colour, and has had a small area of the floor repaired due to damage from a water leak The car has minor tears in the drivers seat, but otherwise the original interior is excellent.
The engine on this particluar Porsche appears unrestored - any information on correct colours of cross members, and fan box would be helpful.

For a comprehensive restoration job in which you plan on rebuilding the engine, treating rust, doing brakes, etc, it is best to use four jack stands, using smaller ones in the front and larger heavy duty ones in the rear.
The next day, after the JB weld was dry, it took about an hour (and a glass of wine after a long day of other restoration activities) to get the timing cover fully surfaced.
Rebuilt 912 (wiring not yet bundled) with a 86mm pistons (1750 cc) big bore kit, Tricom 105 cam, new cam lifters, new valve guides, new valve springs, retainers, all of which were assembled during the engine rebuild.

At some point when Porsche was building very ugly 911 variants, the owner of this car must have felt that it looked old-fashioned; the owner must have preferred ugly.
This engine is larger and develops more power than the original Porsche engine, but as of my purchase of the car, it's so out of tune that the car has a maximum speed of about 70 mph.
The intake manifold (see picture) is off something else again; note that the mystery carburetor is attached via radiator hose and hose clamps to the metal bit; there are fuel injectors (not attached to anything else) in the manifold near the cylinder heads.

Do not judge this car by the 912 as many things have changed since its arrival in the US in 1968.
A fiberglass duck tail had been added as well as a considerable amount of 911S trim to give the illusion that the car is no longer a 912.
In fact the only way we could tell that it was a 912 when we purchased it (aside from the owner telling us) was a closer look at the engine mounts and a VIN check.

Standard was the 911 body, but with unvented brake rotors, and smaller wheels and tires.

 Evolution Porsche 912, Stage1
Unfortunately, the brakes did not seem to be a particularly important item to the previous owner and accordingly even though the engine and transmission had been changed out the brakes had not been upgraded to match, hence stock 912 brakes.
The plan was to drive both the Porsche and Tim and Amy's BMW M3 that day.
Since the M3 is a 4 door it became the designated 'support vehicle' and got stuffed to the gills with all of the necessary tools, EZ-up, chairs, lunch, etc. Due to being organized the night before we left relatively on time and arrived at the track at about 8:30am.

The door panels are from a 1967 911 or 912, and the carpet is all wrong.
This is good, because the 1968 door panels were nasty, and the original carpet in these cars was awful (think VW beetle).

I wanted to post some conclusions, assumptions, or possible errors that I have been using to try and resolve the debate between making this first Porsche a 911 or a 912.
For sake of discussion I would like to limit the comparison between these two models to model years '65-73 for the 911 and all model years of the 912 including the '76 912E.
The purpose of this first car is to get into the PCA so that I can learn about the Porsches I really want.
