The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is a bi-state agency (operated pursuant to an interstate compact) that runs most of the regional transportation infrastructure including the bridges, tunnels, airports and seaports within the New York-New Jersey Port District.
Airports operated by the Port Authority include JFK and LaGuardia both of which are located in the Borough of Queens in New York City, Newark Liberty International located jointly in the cities of Newark, New Jersey and Elizabeth, New Jersey and Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, New Jersey.
Established on April 30, 1921 as the Port of New York Authority, the name of the agency and its form of operation were changed to their present form in 1972.

Renamed as Port Authority Trans-Hudson, or PATH in 1962, the agency has operated status quo for the past 40 years, with few changes or interruptions.
The H&M went backrupt in the 1950's, and the system was eventually bought by the Port Authority in the 1960's, with the stipulation that the agency could build the towers of the World Trade Center on the land occupied by the buildings around Hudson Terminal.
PATH Trains coming into Newark during normal operations do so on the station's upper level, known as Platform H. There are ramps and stairways from this platform down to 2 (Platform C), Tracks 3/4 (Platform D) and 5 (Platform E).
