An alternative plan by PandO Ports (PandOP) for the expansion of Port Botany container terminals has thrown the current review process into turmoil after the New South Wales Government adjourned the independent commission of inquiry to set new terms of reference.
The inquiry was suspended on 31 May, its first day of hearings, after a request from state Planning Minister Craig Knowles to bring PandO Ports’ alternative proposal into the proceedings.
This followed the release of PandOP’s plans during the (separate) Legislative Council Standing Committee on State Development’s Inquiry into Port Infrastructure and suggestions that proposals with less environmental impact than the Sydney Ports Corporation (SPC)’s own preferred plan be considered....

The new design incorporates aspects of Sydney Ports Corporation (SPC)’s original scheme and PandO Ports’ favoured alternative and has received a muted response from various parties.
